Digestive Problems

by Katie143501, Mar 09, 2009 03:14PM
I too have Hashimoto's, I have dealt with the prolonged constipation. I have found that having a Fiber One bar helps, although it makes you bloated. However, the last three weeks I have been having loose stool. Perhaps it's uncomfortable because I am so used to being constipated. Is it normal to be going 3-4 times a day? I wanted to comment on the fact that you have noticed a lack of appetite with your Hashi's. I have also encountered this. Although, there is no weight-loss involved. I can go the entire day without eating sometimes. I don't though. My friends think it is strange that I only eat once or two small meals a day. It is not uncommon for me to not eat anything until 3 or 4pm and be satisfied the rest of the evening. I think this contributes to a slow metabolism which prevents me from weight-loss.

I experience the exact same thing.  I'll use stuff like Miralax and get loose stool and have 3-5 a day with hemrrhoids and pain in my left side.  I am just taking a stool softener now with an occasional laxative.  I am also drinking 2-3 liters of water a day.I still experience the left sided pain, but not as severe as I did with the Miralax.  I  also have deceased appetite and don't eat for the first 6-8 hours I am awake.  When I do eat, I fill up easily.  It is a juggling act I suppose.  It seems as though I'm walking a thin line to manage my bowels.
