Disappeared Thyroid Nodule

by kim1211, Oct 20, 2008 02:38PM
I recently had a cold with a never ending sore throat, my MD sent me for a thyroid ultrasound because she thought she felt a thyroid nodule.  I went for the ultrasound and they found 2 small nodules on my right side and 1 dominant nodule on my left side (3.5cm).  My thryoid blood lab results were all normal.  I went to a endocrinologist and they could not feel the nodule and did another ultrasound.  That ultrasound (2 weeks later) did not show a 3.5 cm nodule, just a very small nodule on that left side.  So pretty much there is no treatment needed.  However, I have been experiencing hair thinning and weight gain and I do feel something in my neck/throat area from time to time.  Do you have any suggestions?

What were the actual numbers from the "normal" blood test?  The description of "normal" varies a lot among doctors and labs.

if you are feeling symptoms of hypo you should request to have your labs done
free t3 and free t4 . Also since you have a nodule you should have an iodine deficiency test done too, as goiters sometimes are caused from iodine deficiency.  I only wish I knew about iodine before I had my RAI . I had the feeling in my neck too, like hands pressing slighlty on my throat. I was dx with a goiter in 1990.

One possibility is that the 3.5 cm "nodule" can be inflammation of the thyroid tissue, following respiratory infection [subacute thyroiditis]
