If you want to get rid of the sunspots you need a good beta hydroxy exfoliator.use it at night then sunscreen at least and spf 30 and reapply as often as you can.
Paulas choice on the web has good exfoliators or you can also get it at the drug store.I prefer Paulas choce and I am 50 years old with no sunspots and I take alot of meds that make you hyper sensitive to the sun.

Did you see my reply to you on 7/17 when you asked this question? If not, I too have this same problem, except it's on my upper lip and I hate it. I made an appointment with my primary care doc on 8/2, and I'm asking her to refer me to a dermatologist for it. I've noticed a little under my lip as well, but not as much as the upper. Mine don't look like the "sun spots" that I have - like on my cheek bones. These are a very different color and the shape is just weird. Let me know if you find anything, and I'll do the same.
Cheryl ~ yeah....my fiance is quite a bit older than me and just kind of chuckles and says "You may as well face it now. As you get older, you get uglier!" Aaarrrrgggghhhh. Not if I can help it!!! I know he's trying to soften the blow, because he's been there-done that. But I STILL think this is from either the thyroid problem, or there is also something I read about adrenal fatigue that can cause discoloration. I guess if they tell me it's just age, I'll have to deal with it. Gracefully getting older? I may need to take some lessons from you, because I'm having a hard time with it!!!! :-)

Alot of those types of pigmentation would occur anyway. I have it on my wrist of late. My dermatologist said nothing to worry about and nothing I can do either to preven them. Gracefully getting older I said, and he laughed with me.
There is a product that Avon makes that reduced the blemishes of these types of spots and it works great .. it is a "banishing cream" and isn't too costly at all ... they also make a product called "lighten up" which I have used under eyes and onto cheekbones for same pigmentation and it has worked well.
Also, certain meds heighten reaction to skin .. anti-inflammatories are well-known for that, too.

I thought paleness was sign of a thyroid problem actually. That and peeling dry skin.
If you live in a sunny place the spots can be from sun exposure. This damage takes place over many many years, starting when we are young, so it can show up as we get older. There is also a hereditary component to skin discoloration.
Hormones of pregnancy are well-known to change complexion.
Hello,
I am Hypothyroid and yes, I can say I've noticed some discolouration on my face.......mostly around my eyes and on the corners of my mouth! It is a yellowy kind of colour. I would never have connected the 2 together so thankyou for highlighting this. Mine has been slightly exaggerated recently because I am 31 weeks pregnant and so have a touch of "pregnancy mask" too.
If you find answers, let me know!!

Hi, all,
Just wondering if anyone else with thyroid issues is also struggling with pigmentation problems? More specifically, hyperpigmentation (brown spots), usually on face and neck? I've had these awful discolorations on my face for 10+ years, despite wearing sunscreen EVERY day.
I was on another website trying to get some answers to the skin pigmentation problems, and noticed quite a number of the respondents with the same problem (melasma = hyperpigmentation) also mentioned thyroid disorders.
I spole with me endo about this, she had no idea. I'd like to get a feel for how common this issue is for those of us with thyroid disorders.
Thanks for your feedback
