Do I Need to Wean Off PTU Slowly?

I have hyperthyroid and my TSH was very low, now it is starting to go back up.

My endocrinologist want me to stop taking PTU. I stopped it last week and now I feel horrible. I feel extremely nervous and edgy all the time.

Can I just stop it cold turkey or do I need to wean off it slowly?

PTU has to be weaned off according to levels.
If you stop cold turkey, you will go hyper again.
Usually starting dose is 30mg and then wean down by 5mg each time (usually every 2-3 weeks).
But this all depends on the FT3 and FT4.
Tell your Doc that TSH rising DOESNT mean you are NOT Hyper.

Ask your Doc to go by FREE T3 and FREE T4 and they are the main hormones that determine the dose of PTU.
