Do tests indicate threshhold to be treated?

In Dec 2007 my TSH was 5.79.  (Lab indicated range of 0.34-5.6)
In Jan 2008 my TSH was 5.83 (Lab indicated range of 0.34-5.6) - also T4 6.99, TPO 62.7, ATA 116.4
In Jan 2009 my TSH was 7.41 (different lab from first two tests indicated range of 0.4-4.5)
In Feb 2009 my TSH was 5.95 (same lab as first two tests - indicated range of 0.34-5.6) also T3=1.45, TPO=70.1, ATA=187.6.

In Feb 2009 a SONO Neck found it "compatible with thyroiditis".

My Primary insists that I wait another six months for another test to see if levels stay elevated then maybe consider treatment of 25mg levothyyroxine.

From four elevated results within 15 months, do the levels indicate a threshold to begin treatment?  And what is with the different TSH Normal Ranges between different labs and why are they so much higher than the AACE recommended range?

Keep after your doctor, or ask for a second opinon. I've been on thyroid medication for hypothyroidism for about 10 years. I feel best when my TSH is between 1-2. The doctor usually won't adjust if TSH is 2.5 or less unless it's a pregnant woman. I don't know about the T3 and T4 as I think those are mainly used to indicate hyperthyroidsim. Good luck!
