My first time on here. I was looking for answers for my grandsons wife who has a 6x4xcm length and width and is as big around as a golf ball. The growth is in the right side of the neck at the thyroid  and it is growing. It is  She had her ultra sound yesterday and is scheduled for ENT in the two weeks.  She wasn't given a report on what it is only a call with blood work. Blood levels are all normal. I am a thyroid cancer of 44 years having two types of cancer, follicular and  papillary . I would like to encourage all of you. I had it when I was 20 and there was no radioactive iodine to give me, just massive doses of Synthroid due to  all the cancer not being removed.  Mine was very slow growing and I was told I would live another 3-5 years. 20 years later my thyroid grew back with a vengeance. There was radioactive iodine at that point and I was given that. Five years later  it grew again. Round two of radioactive iodine. That was in 1993. Fast forward to 2018. I am still here but all the massive doses of Synthroid and keeping the TSH level as close to zero as possible have caused me some atrial fib problems so Drs. in the process of lowering it. I am down  to  a little lower than .137. But guys, I am so thankful and blessed to still be here. I am 64 and still going. Keep your spirits up and keep on going. I worked for 41 years and am now disabled but I will not be a couch potato.

None of the previous posters are active on the forum at this time so it's unlikely any will respond to your post, however, please let us know how we can help you in regards to your grandson's wife and we will do the best we can.

Does she have a nodule that's 6 X 4 X 2 cm or is that the size of her thyroid?

Do  you have copies of her actual blood work?  Even though her results may be in the normal ranges, that doesn't mean they are normal for her.  Does she have symptoms of a thyroid malfunction?  If so, what are the symptoms?

If you can post the blood test results, along with their corresponding reference ranges, we can be more helpful.

It sounds like you had quite a traumatic time with your thyroid.  I'm sorry for that.

Just for your information, it's not low TSH that causes problems; it's too high levels of actual thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3.

I'm glad to hear you didn't let the thyroid issues get you down and that you refuse to be a couch potato now. Being inactive actually makes it harder for us to keep going than keeping up our activity.

Hi,

I had my left thyroid lobe removed in the past 3 weeks an my appetitite is so unbelievable. I eat a lot and as a result I have put on weight, it frustrates me. I am also experiencing breast pain and I am not sure if it is one of the after effects of thyroid surgery. I am not on any of the thyroid replacement pills.

I am on the healthy diet, problem is when hunger strikes I must attend to it there and there or else I will shake or throw up * Sorry* but that's how servere my case is.

Thank you for post, I am about to have thyroid removed and I am already on synthroid 125/day. I am anxious to know if I will be able to lose weight after thyroid is gone, since I am already on synthroid. My weight is creeping up and I am eager to get thyroid OUT! I weigh 132 and I would like to weigh 126. Can you tell me more about your post op.? Thank you.

I lost weight after surgery, and did not put on much during hypo (maybe a couple of pounds). It came off within a few days of going on levothyroxine (mostly because I didn't feel real great for a couple of days.) I should mention that I have never really been overweight, but was getting close and the weight that I lost was quite welcome. I have several friends that are on Synthroid following TT and all of them are thin (not underweight, but perfect for their height.) They actually said the one good thing about the thyroid replacement hormones was that they ended up being able to stay thin. I do have a couple of friends who are overweight and on Synthroid, but they still have their thyroid and are just supplementing for hypothyroidism.

I have not had mine removed, but from what I hear,  you will probably go hypothyroid and put on meds to level out your TSH.   People with hypo usually do gain weight until their TSH is level, but you should lose it pretty fast.  I am no Dr. so be sure to ask this question to him.
