Does Hydrocortisone affect test
I have made an appointment to get a Thyroid blood test, but it has been suggested that as I am on hydrocortisone for adrenal support, the test would be invalid.  Is this the case?
Thanks

Since you had started adrenal support I do know it will effect your labs. Alos if you are taking any B supplements that will also effect lab work.

I am just learning about this and do not want to give inaccurate information - I am hoping Kitty9309 see this post and responds.

If you are on prescription hydrocortisone, in a very small replacement doses, the tests will not be affected.

Here is a quote from endocrinology.org:
"Glucocorticoids inhibit T4 to T3 conversion and inhibit TSH release (> 20 mg/d prednisone, > 100 mg/d hydrocortisone, > 4 mg/d dexamethasone)."

I doubt you are this high a dose for your adrenals. What dose are you on?

In fact, gettting your adrenals back in shape is recommended before starting thryoid hormone replacement meds.

Taking B vitamins will not affect the thyroid testing. It would only cause the levels of the b vitamins to be increased.
