Went to doctors this afternoon and asked for branded Eltroxin rather than the generic thyroxine that I have been on for the past couple of months.
When I went through all of the symptoms that I have been having since my dose was upped to 75mcgs - i.e. sweatsSweat electrolytes test Sweat test Sweating Sweating - absent/hot flushes, aching joints, tiredness and headaches - he says that is obviously due to the menopause having started. Now I know for sure that I wasn't suffering from ANY of those symptoms prior to going onto the thyroxine, so that did make me a bit cross, it would just be a bit too much of a coincidence. These doctors seem to want to blame everything on the menopause. When I saw the endocronologist he said that thyroxine doesn't have any side effects whatsoever because it is not a drug it is a hormone replacement, but from everything I have read there are loads of people suffering from side effects - we can't all be starting the menopause. I just hope that switching over to the Eltroxin will make at least some of them disappear.
I have to keep taking the 100mcgs dose now for two months and then go back for another blood test.
Does anyone else suffer from these same side effects through taking thyroxine?
Too bad you didn't ask the doctor if he ever heard of fillers, or inert ingredients, like what they make the tablets out of????
Does the doctor with eight years of college think the stupid pill is 100% active ingredient?
Maybe an antidepressant is what you need. I think it's all in your head.
Sorry, that's supposed to be a joke. :-(

I swear, some of these people are complete idiots. The reason there is so many types of Brand Name T4 drugs is because they use DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS. But they all have exactly the same active ingredient. It's the fillers that make Synthroid different from Levoxyl, or Eltroxin.
Some people react badly to one brand and get along better on another brand because of the fillers.
Also, generics are not held to the same standards that name brand drugs are, and the potency can vary more with generics.
I'd call him up and yell at him for you, but the long distance charges would kill me.
