Does stress effect Hashi's symptoms?

by pixie39, Nov 07, 2009 05:15PM
After I started Armour Thyroid 4 months ago, the brain fog and most of the fatigue went away.  I recently relocated, and it was very stressful. As soon as I relocated, the brain fog and the fatigue returned.  I don't know if I'm just depressed, but why would that cause the same symptoms as my Hashi's?  The Brain fog and lack of energy/Weakness is not a symptom of depression.  Maybe my Adrenals?  My doctor would NOT give me that test or treatment, since it's not FDA approved. I went to the doctor yesterday and took blood tests, and told me to see a shrink about the aniexty pills I take to help me sleep.  Any advice would be appreciated.

You may need an increase in your dosage and your symptoms could be from increasing hypothyroidism. Do you have your results from your blood work yesterday yet? You are correct the brain fog and lack of energy are hypo symptoms...

One of the symptoms of Hashimotos is depression. Often that is treated as an entirely separate issue and overlooked as a brain chemical reaction from the Hashi's. Often stress brings on the depression from the Hashi's! If you can avoid taking anti-depressants or anxiety pills then do so. You may not realise it but the anti-depressant actually causes the chemicals in the brain to become worse, not better! The Hashi's releases some lovely cocktails of histamine and others which then suppress the serotonin etc. The anti-depressant reacts with that in a sort of fight and you don't get any better!
The body reacts with the stress and you are under attack. Hence the brain fog etc. It is the anti-bodies trying to win out and you feel wrung out. If you can try to have natural remedies and lots of rest you will find it will pass. Often upping your thryoid meds for a short time can help.
