I toyally agree with u! Anxiety is definitly a symptom of HYPOthyroidism but docs don seem 2 care. When I went to my doc e told me I was depressed and anxious. I have never experienced this before and new it was something else.. Yup my thyroid!!!!! I actually asked for the tests to be done! Im on eltroxin now but jus wondering wen they will kick in???? F i can get rid of the anxiety I can handle the other symptoms!!!! Its madness that people suffer needlessly!!!
I think I'm going to start weaning off the the Clonazepam. Next tue I'm going to cut it into fours and only take a 1/4 every night for a week and then the week after 1/4 every other night. I does help me sleep but I still have anxiety during the day.
You also would not need to ween off the time released med switching to Xanax - and in the end could cut back much easier on the plain O'l Xanax when the time was right to ween off them entirely.
just another thought and my past experience.
Those meds are time released -- right? I was on both of them for a very short time and always fell back on just Xanax and used that until I no longer needed it.
Maybe dropping the "longer life" anxiety meds and going to the short timed ones as Xanax might help you bandaide the anxiety until your levels for your thyroid are taken care of.
just a thought.
Thanks everyone. I'm just sitting here looking up some information on Clonazepam which is what they put me on for anxiety and sleeping and I see that you should not take it for longer than 9 weeks I'm already on 2 weeks and she wants me to stay on through the holidays. What would you all do ?? The Lexapro is in my system now for 3 weeks I'm thinking about cutting the half in half again.
The doctor "mentality" these days seems to be "don't listen, just throw pills at them". I'm having similar problem with my dr. Hope we both get things worked out soon.
I know this sounds quick to judge. but in my opinion
Fire her!! - she sounds like someone who gets paid to do absolutely nothing for you.
She's an MD for heaven's sake. Do you know how many people here are treated by just an MD for their thyroid problems and do not rely on an endo -
( who that endo could only specialize in diabeties and not thyroid and not know all the right treatments for you either)
Get someone who won't push her "crazy" thoughts on you and Go with your gut!!
You know it's the thyroid - don't buy into the anxiety Crazy stuff!
I'm sorry you had a bad day. I hope it gets better soon and I wish I was a doctor so I could say something more helpful!
Take care,
Amy
