Edema related to hypothyroidism?

I'm a 35 yr old female recently diagnosed as hypothyroid after I saw my doctor for pitting edema in my legs, feet and hands. The swelling lasted for about 5 days.   After a few weeks of 50 mcg of Levothroid, my edema returned, about 10 days before my menstrual cycle.

My doctor just retested my TSH levels which are now at 1.4, but we are awaiting addt'l results for thyroid antibodies.  We do know that my CRP levels keep elevating which is a mystery.  Maybe it's from my thyroid?

Can you tell me if pitting edema is hypothyroid related and if the elevation in CRP levels could be related to my thyroid?  Any information would be appreciated.   Thanks.

Interesting.  My post-RAI instructions say to call immediately if you get swollen ankles.  Is that an indication that you would be in a hypo crash?

My mother had pitting edema that went away when she stopped taking Lipitor.

Hi and welcome.  I hope your additional labs and thyroid antibodies turn out good.  When you post them, there is a lot of people on here that seem to understand the results better than some doctors.  I would ask for a copy of your lab results to keep at home for yourself.  CRP levels will be increased due to inflammation in your body.  I also have pitting edema and have had for years, but with me I don't believe it is thyroid related.

I'm sure someone else can chime in better than I though.  Best of wishes and again welcome.  ;~)
