Enlarged nodule&thyroid,numbness tingling?

Hello,

I am currently awaiting the results of labwork for my thyroid.  I had an ultrasound and both sides of my thyroid are slightly enlarged and I have a nodule with complex cystic and solid ethnogencity measuring 0.8 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm.

I also had a baby 8 months ago.

I feel like I'm falling apart !  I have so many different symptoms and I don't know if it's from my thyroid or something else!  I have been getting temple headaches (never get headaches), a funny numb/tingling type feeling in the back of my head and sometimes my cheeks and jaw area, rapid weight loss, anxiety, tremor type feeling periodically just as I'm falling asleep, dry mouth, feels like I constantly have something in my throat when I swallow, to name a few!

Could these all be from the throid?  Does anyone else ever have the headache and or numbness feeling in the head?

I am going to see a neurologist as well but am wondering if it's all related to the thyroid.

Also, I guess the nodule is just under 1 cm which is when they would do a biopsy.  But I almost feel like maybe I should just go ahead and get it done now instead of waiting to see if it goes down.  The dr said it could be from having the baby and it may not grow any larger.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as I am so worried.  Thanks!

Has anyone considered the problem may be with the parathyroid?

On what basis did the Endo decide you were hyper?  Please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.  Have you been tested for Vitamin B12, Vitamin D and ferritin?  If so, please post those, and ranges, as well.

I am glad that I finally hear others saying they are having numbness and tingling in the face and extremities!!! It is driving me crazy!!! I recently went through the whole regime of testing. Lab work, Ultra Sound, Thyroid Scan and biopsy. Nodule is 3.3,2.6,2.4 on right and smaller than 1cm on Left. The FNA was benign and I was started on 2 medications. I continue to have periods of intense numbness in the face, around eyes and down the front of my arms and legs. The Endo and ENT both discount the fact that this in any way is related to my hyperthyroidism or the thyroid mass but then where is it coming from. I am confused though because I have gained a trememdous amount of weight and the ENDO insists I have hyperthyroidism!!! I hate that a small gland such as this can make you feel absolutely AWFUL!!! My eyes have been bothering me alot lately also and have had to go to stronger reading glasses. YUK   I enjoy reading all the information here.

Wow interesting thread. I have had a thyroid condition since I was 20years old. However no meds always just deal with my anxiousness and other issues. Until recently the head tingling the jaw / ear pain and the raw swallow feel. These things are setting me insane. I too have a rather large goider as my endo has always called it and many nodules, which are growing according to my ultrasound.

6.8x2.3 x3.4 cm RL
7.0x2.7x3.0 cm LL

I really cannot find anything that tells me the norm to compare. 5 nodules that are being monitored all 1-2 cm's / Today I started this crzy itching all over for no reason ughhh seeing endo in March

Anyone have feed back on thryroidectomy? May be what I have to do they have been after me for a couple yrs telling me I will feel better. But I already struggle with weight and certainly don't want to be become obese. Trade one ailment for another :-)

Thanks
Tammy in Md.

I'm so glad that I found this thread...my MD has basically discounted the tingling symptoms in my jaw, mouth and head; also having throbbing sensation in my neck; headaches, etc.  I'm on 75 mcg of of Synthroid...got very sick from the Armour Thyroid.  Does anyone else have internal bleeding?  I was severely anemic; no luck finding the source (gastro) of the bleeding, which I suspect is my thyroid.  Finally going to an endocrinologist next month.

Currently, I'm on Lyrica and Cymbalta for nerve pain in my throat and neither seem to help.  I have also had a nerve block in my throat with no success.  The "object sensation" began on the left side where my thyroid lies.  On October 10th, I get a biopsy and an ultrasound to see this nodule.  I'm hoping they can tell me where this nodule is and if it's up against something(blood vessel, carotid artery, nerve, etc.).  I've had all the MRI's to rule out MS, masses, etc.  I also go to physical therapy to release the muscles tension in my neck and throat area.  The nerve has been firing for almost 1 year now and has wrecked havoc on my surrounding muscles.

The endocrinologist says he has never seen a nodule irritate a nerve, especially one a little over 1cm.  The creepy feeling is with me 24/7 so I'm hoping I can prove him wrong and have an answer to this awful thing.  Looking forward to see what other sufferers find out.

I have almost all the samae symptoms also. The jabbing describtion is the best I 've seen for the pain I get in my ears!! I am anxious- do not sleep. I go to the sleep clinic tomorrow.
and am waiting on US on thyroid .I was not put on meds, because bloodwork was in normal range. I also have a nodule that was too small for a biopsy. I also have IBS and Gerd and am on meds for that.Because of the jawline and throat issues I was given the swallow tests too.-still did not move forward.
I'll be watching this thread.
Good luck to all!!

OMG...I am so glad to "hit" on this site and your question!  These symptoms have also been driving me nuts!  I started them back in January.  Also added to mine was sharp jabbing pains traveling from my ears down my neck, which is what sent me to an ENT.  I've had ears and throat checked, blood work and a cardio stress test.  Results came back normal.  Then I had a CT scan, which showed a large nodule in my left thryoid lobe (2.3cm).  Blood and TSH are normal.  I had FNA and core needles biopsies, ultrasound guided (9 passes).  After this ordeal, they only got minimal tissue samples and the test results came back "inconclusive".  The last doc (5th opinion) told me to wait until the lump grew larger than 3 cm and then definitely have surgery.  Here's the wierd part....all my docs have told me that all my strange symptoms were NOT related to the thryoid issue!!!  I really think they are!  I will have another ultrasound in 4 months, and if the nodule is growing I will have the surgery.  In the meantime, I'm still getting all my symptoms. :-(

Thank you everyone for your posts!  At least I feel like maybe I'm not crazy!!!

I had an MRI and am waiting the results but the neurologists thinks all of my symptoms are related to the thyroid but wanted to just rule out any neuro problems.

I also am having a gastro issue ... had a barium swallow test and apparently I have a larger than usual opening where the esophagus opens into the stomach so I have to have some more tests for that.  They have given me Gerd meds (even though I have no symptoms of gerd other than that lump/phlem in the throat feeling).  So I don't know whether the throat thing is from the nodule or the stomach!!!!! Man it ***** getting old!!

What's crazy is that all of my thyroid blood tests came out normal but the Endo thinks the nodule is what's causing  the symptoms and has prescribed a low dose of Synthroid (1/2 of 25mg pill 1x per day).  That seems so low.  He is trying to see if it will shrink.  I will have to have another ultrasound in 6 months.  I had asked about just having the biopsy now and get it over with (it's .08 cm, just below what they would normally biopsy) but he said he probably wouldn't be able to get a good enough sample.  That sounded kind of strange to me but I guess I'll try the medication.

Has everyone taken the synthroid okay?

I don't tolerate ice cold things well either.  I never thought about it being from the thyroid but maybe it is.  I always drink at room termperature too.

Yep me too. Not sleeping and major anxiety!! You described it perfectly. I am so dried out that I carry a bottle of water in my bag at ALL times. I do better with room temp water. Also I feel like I am clearing my throat all the time trying to get rid of that feeling.

Also, thank you for mentining dry mouth.  Does anyone else experience this?  I guess I could say it's not really dry in my mouth.  It's more dry down my throat and in the back.  At times, I have to drink tons of water to feel "wet."

How are you with cold drinks, especially with ice?  Sometimes I can't tolerate the cold.  I think it must be irritating my nerves more.

Those are eactly my symptoms!!  Can I also include complete sleepness nights like last night.  Anxiety and body is so reved up that I can't turn myself off.

I had numbness and tingling on face and inside mouth at times, down neck as well.  I get burning on the back of my head but I think that's more from holding my body incorrectly for 10 months....avoiding the lump.

What confuses me is these are the same symptoms I have told Doctors but not one has linked it to my Thyroid.  Yet, all these sufferers are complaining of the same thing.

FYI:  I did have a cervical MRI w/ and w/o contrast and no abnormalties were shown or maybe it just wasn't read correctly.

I started with the tingling and numbness in the chin and cheek my family doc sent me to neurologist for a MRI he ruled out brain tumor said I must have a blood vessel touching a nerve gave me a sample of lyrica and sent me on my way. Shortly there after I noticed a lump in my throat which I ignored for a long time until it started bothering me when I swallow like something there that wouldn't go up or down. Back to my family doc. He sent me this time to endocrinologist and she determined I am hypo with 4 nodules 2 on each side right side larger which is where I have the problem in my throat. Apparently one of the nodules is pressing on a nerve in my neck. Would have been nice if the MRI had included my neck but it was confined to my head. After a FNA and taking synthroid for a few months I am scheduled for a TT tomorrow. Sounds like you are having similar symptoms. Have you had blood work yet? If so what is your TSH?
