Welcome and thanks - like you I have had many mishaps with medical practitioners and I like you chose to become an advocate for my own health. Found a laboratory who will allow me to go to them to have my tests done, found someone who could analise the tests for me - but still did not have a Dr who could work on my health with me - spent weeks researching through the interent - just today found a Dr in the USA who sent me a 14 page questionaire to complete before he would give me a telephone consultation. At first my heart drop when I saw the documents that needs to be completed, then I said to myself "hey girl you want to beat this condtion - then pull gear and complete the docs." Took me about three days. I scanned and emailed it through to him - just today spoke to him for one hour and about 20 minutes. I am on the right track - diet OK and the changes I made according to him excellent, NOOOO Gluten, Dairy and sugar. Eat Lowe glycemic food and adopt the habit I have of if you can not peel it do not eat it. If you did not cook it do not eat it. I made a few mistakes. I would take my T4 and T3 around 3 am - I have good energy and then around 3 in the afternoon I become like a wilted flower and go into a bad dip. The adjustments I need to make - have a boiled egg, small piece of meat or any protein within what I am allowed to consume within 20 minutes of waking up - since I am reactive Hypoglyecemic this will prevent me from having the insulin surge - then to have breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, early dinner and snack - this small meals througout the day - but protein with each one. To take my T4 and T3 after breakfast as when I took it first thing in the morning felt really bad. The supplements I use Glutathion is very good, Salmon oil good but we need to ensure that we get the correct amount of EPA and DHA into our bodies and not look at the fish oil content - in my case the EPA 186 mg and the DHA is 111mg - I need to take at least 5 capsules a day. Niacin B3 one capsule with each meal - first few days you get a Niacin rush - and for a few minutes about 10 to 15 you feel hot and parts of your body looks red - this indicates that it is working for you and not something to worry about. Thus instead of butter I now use coconut oil - have toast and put a tablespoon of coconut oil on the toast and leave it to soak in - top it with an Avocado and a sprinkling of Himalyan Sea Salt and it is really great tasting. I now have 3 tablespoons of Coconut Oil during the day with meals over and above the Salmon oil caps. Dr will email me a full report and all the tests I need to have done - an whala now I linked this dr to the medical practicioner who analises the blood tests who will help to have the lab tests done at the laboratory that allows me to go to them for my tests - thus I had to find my own lab, find someone who can read the results and help me to understand them - find a dr who will LISTEN to me and what MY BODY communictes - who is not hooked on blood work only - little did I know that the laboratory would be here in Hong Kong - the medical analist a Canadian now here and the Dr in the USA - but hey I am going to get there even if it means bringing them all together and it has been a two year journey to be where I am now. But I found EARS who are listening and walking with me in my journey to know how to manage and live with this condition with the hope to reverse many of my levels. Will feedback as and when and how things go - but it is within this forum family that I have learnt the most.
Thanks
To all
thanks for recommending the Datis Kharraszzian book, I've just bought it after TamraW on here suggested it. lots of good info. I get so frustrated though that there are so many conflicting opinions out there on things like iodine, vitamin D, tyrosine, etc....I guess I have to accept it's a complex condition and I need to learn to really listne to my own body and make the most educated choices I can. Kharrazzian seems incredibly highly qualified and what I've read from him so far seems to make really good sense. I've been put off alternative practitioners as had one who I discovered actually wasn't as well qualifed as she indicated. Now I'm trying to find my own solutions, with the help of lots of reading and learning from other peopple who have discovered good results for themselves.
good luck to you and big respect for your positive and philopsophical approach.
Dear Lori
I was told that Hashi impacts on the parathyroids but there again each of us are different and Hashi may or may not be the cause of our parathyroids over reacting.
Strange but I too seem to react to vitamin D - my endo gave me a Vitamin D combined with Calcium and by day 2 I felt awful, severe body aches, sore throat and a whole lot of bad symptoms, it took me about 4 days to get over it and had to do a lot of bed rest and a Wellness practitioner told me to take stick cinnamon and make a tea - I did that and it did help me a lot -for me I let go of the Vit D but do ensure to spend time in the sun by the way without sunglasses as learnt that it is through our eyes that we absorb the vitamin D from the sun I sip cinnamon tea or Parsley tea on down days and as I understand my symptoms are very much candida related. Living in Hong Kong we are exposed to a lot of molds and I now adopt a rule of - If I can not peal it - I do not eat it. If I do not steam, boil or cook it I do not eat it. This way we ensure that we do not get infected by parasites or worms or bacteria that is not good for an unehealthy gut - often the case with us and thyroid issues. But there again each of our bodies are not the same and somehwere I read - someone said - what works for Suzy does not work for Anne and for me I have learnt to tune into my body and am blessed that I found a Wellness practictioner who I can have lengthy chat with and he enables me to say hey this works this does not etc - I prefer to go more natural in living with this condition as we already take so many products to manage our lives. My body functions better on homeopathic meds and I use them in conjunction with my Cytomel and blessing to Goollara who gave me guidance on this and my L-Thryoxin but the next part I want to experiment with is why do I function better on Eltroxin that L-Thryoxin as in South Africa I used Eltroxin - Hong Kong only has L-Thyroxin and so not know if that could have an impact - I did find other information that states we each need to see what works for us - Armour did not work for me but there again - I react to Salmon, Tuna and Pork - odd how the makeup of each is but the journey of discovery has been quite exciting - and here we help one another to live with the up and down beats of this condition. Down days I spend at home and say buddies out there - it is a PJ day and then I just meditate, relax, sip Cinnamon tea or sleep a lot, next day the sun will shine again. I had to learn that it is OK to have downtime as well.
The latest I am told is that there is a tablet that works for T1,T2, T3 and T4 levels but combination tablets does not work for me as I often need more T3 and less T4 or the other way round I rather supplement with a homeopathic product that does work on all the T levels and the parathyroid etc - it works for me but it may not work for others.
You can get a lot more helpful info here if you start your own post and title based on your questions vs trailing on another post. At least 1/4 to 1/3 have Hashi here. A few with parathyroidism also. Many here on vit D.
I need help. I was just diagnosed with Hashi and hypo last month and started to take Synthroid.
My problem is that my body has a hard time absorbing Vit D. It was down to 8.5 and now it's 34 which is 4 points over the bottom of the reference range. I've been taking 6,000IU daily and was told that in order to have the greatest benefit to ward off cancer and other diseases, the level should be at 70.
I also have high PTH. (parathyroidism). No doctor or specialist can figure it out! When my Vit.D goes up, so does my PTH. It's suppsed to be the opposite!
I'm very concerned about this because a high PTH robs the bones from calcium and causes osteoporosis. I already have osteoporosis and taking Boniva for it.
Does anyone have any idea if the Hashi may have anything to do with the parathyroids over acting?
Gratz on the positive tude!! This is obviously helping you......the T3? you're taking might be the reason that you've been able to obtain a more upbeat feeling! I can't get a Dr. who understands the t3 value.if only I could find some real help, I might be as enthuastic as you seem to be.........good for you !!
Yes, I too have Hashimoto's. Even though I had my thyroid removed near 3 years ago, I still have anti-bodies which make me feel totally bleurgh most days. It has suppressed my immune system so when I get sick I get SICK!
I am not a sufferer nor a victim in that sense either, just another thing to live with, like me having red hair, teased all my life about that but I make jokes and that helps!
I have been meaning to see if I can get a copy of that book as I have seen many people recommending it. I have Mary Shomon's book and Thyroid for Dummies, and an Adrenal Fatigue book as well. The more educated we are the better we can deal with our diseases.
Yep, lots of people here with plenty to share that is for sure!
