Explination of a Pathology report.

I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and what follows is the information I was given but I do not understand it, if you could please explain this in lay terms:
Technique:Real time sonographic imaging of the thyroid gland was performed.
Findings: The right lobe 4,8x1.5x1.2 cm. Left lobe 4,7x2.4x2.0 cm. Almost all of the left lobe is replaced by a mass measuring 4.2 x 2.2s1.6cm. The mass is not vascular. There are multiple nodules seen in the right lobe. The small nodule in the right upper lobe is very vascular. Ishtmus normal.
Imperssion: Findings suggestive of multinodular goiter. Sugesst radionuclide uptake and scan and biopsy of the left mass. I have since had a biopsy. I was referred to a surgeon with the endocrinologist recommending total removal even though the biopsy was negative and blood work normal. I am concerned about surgery. Thank you for your help.
