Welcome aboard Karen, this forum is a warm spot to be in, I have learned more here than the Dr.'s visits. everyone is aways there for you and ready to lend a helping hand...so you found the right spot. I read the posts everyday too.
I was put on synthyroid 137 mcg the third day after RAI. They gave me six pills (I.23) (1642.2uCi) for the full body scan MRI, then deducted the amount remaining in me and after the weekend I went in for the 1 nuke pill of 154.500mCi .Had a TT in may 16,07 pap cancer. If you don't mind me asking what was the RAI for?
I hope you continue to get better.
Margie
Prozac is an SSRI drug, and it is not helpful for your thyroid problems.
I am taking an anti-anxiety drug, Alprazolam (Xanax), which helps tame the knot in the stomach.
My family doctor and two Endo's ALL refused to give me SSRI drugs, although I begged, because it affects the thyroid and adrenal glands, throwing off tests and hindering treatment.
I had terrible depression for a while, and I still have it, but not as bad as it was. The doctors told me to tough it out, because I wasn't getting anti-depressants.
I'm telling you this, not to scare you, but to inform you. You should ask your Endocrinologist about it, and see if there is another drug that might be more suitable for you.
Don't panic and throw the Prozac out or quit taking it. IF you decide to stop taking it, you have to be weaned off of it slowly. Depending on your situation, the Endo may decide it is best to leave you on it, and work around it.
Good luck with the RAI (I hope the nausea clears up soon), and good luck with your next appointment.
I have been on prozac for a year before they dx'ed the thyroid. It has done a world for me as far as depression goes. My dr. won't give me xanax. But at next appt will ask him about antidepressants and thyroid problems.. Thanks for the heads up on this.
