Final pathology

Hi all, I received my final pathology report yesterday and I had a 2.3cm pap. cancer on the left lobe as well a a .1cm cancer - they called it multifocal.  2 out of the 7 lymph nodes had pap. cancer as well. I was bummed about that.  The right lobe had a follicular adenoma and hurthle cells, but no signs of carcinoma. My endo says I have to wait until my TSH is 30 before RAI.  Can anyone tell me why?  I have read that somewhere but I don't remember where- oh no, the brain fog is starting!  I'm so scared of the symptoms to start showing for hypo-hell.  So far I'm just trying to recover from the surgery.  Not many things to look forward to. One day at a time I keep saying.  I just thought the whole lymph node thing was a set back.  I don't know what the surgeon will say on Monday when I see him.  I hope he doesn't have to go back on for the rest of the lymph nodes on the left side. How many are there anyway??  Thanks for reading my post.

I think that multifocular means they found "more than one" of the same type of cancer ... I had that, too .... having multifocular is one of the criteria for having a TT vs. partial in the newest recommendations of May '06.

I am sorry you now have to endure the unknown but you are a true survivor my friend by every letter of the word and then some ... sorry about the lymph node involvement .. how long was the tumor present?

C~

redhed,
So sorry about your pathology report, but glad that you have answers now and will soon know your plan of attack.  I loved your other post about feeling validated.  So true... the "C" word is never easy and it's great that you have family that realizes it's "real" cancer no matter how curable it is.

I had Melanoma in 2005, which is the worst skin cancer there is, so although I was fortunate enough to have caught it early, it brought to reality just how vulnerable we all are to disease and illness.

Thank you for sending along that website in your other post... I plan to do some reading.

sorry about the thyca diagnosis. They want any remaining thyriod tissue to be starved of iodine so it will take up all the RaI and kill any tissue and cancer sthat might be left behind. Hypohell is rough but will be her for you everystep of the way.You are in excellent company.

Hello, Redhed87

Please try not to worry. My Dr. Told me that 50% of thyroid cancer speads to the lymph nodes and does not mean the cancer is any worse. My Dr. said it was very common. It is still very very treatable. I have also read that doing rescearch online about thyca. Talk about brain fog it is awful huh. I can't remember what websites that I read that. if I remember I will post the link.  I had to open a new window to read your post again and respond. I forget what you have written by the time I flip back to this email.. Crazy I say.. but still laughing at myself. Keep your humor redhed87.. You know we are all here for you. Never hesitate to reach out to us.. Sorry for speaking for everyone but I just feel it in my bones. I just know this group is special. I had this saying I would tell myself everytime I was feeling down or crapping. It was "I refuse to be sick" " I refuse to be sick". I would say it over and over in my head and sometimes out loud.Think of something that works for you or use mine I would be honored.. lol.. You take care.. Keep on letting those feeling out. It might clear the fog..I am teasing..
I had to go back again and read your post.. I not sure how many nodes there are in your neck. Quite a few I believe. Maybe the RAI will kill the rest of the cancer and you won't have to have surgery again. I had lots of swollen nodes in my neck and my white blood cell count was high my doc was thinking cancer but just hashimoto's that caused it. my nodes are still swollen. Your in my prayers.   Jean
