Gaves Remmision???

Hi,
I would love to hear from anyone here who has been in remission with Graves disease, and is currently Not taking any meds. Stupid question I know, if you are, you're probaly not on here...I think I must be a "rare breed", I can't seem to find too many people who have successfully beaten Graves disease.
There is alot of speculation that when you carry the TSI antibody, which I have, there is chance Graves will reappear? RAI and surgery was the only option for me in the early days after experiencing Thyroid storm, but I managed to convince the Doc there is another option to the 2 they gave me...anyway thats a long strory, anyone else here had a similar experience?

The people who commented on this thread haven't been on the forum in years.  If you want individual attention to your concerns, it would be best to post a new question so members can respond to you directly.  Just go to the top of the page and hit the "Post a Question" button and follow instructions.

Has your endo tested TSI?  TSI is the definitive test for Graves'.  While TPOab can be elevated with Graves', it's usually an indicator of Hashi's.  Without a TSI, and with a history of Hashi's, I wouldn't be convinced, either.

Do you have recent thyroid labs...FT3, FT4 and TSH?  If so, please post them along with reference ranges that vary lab to lab so have to come from your own lab report.

What are your symptoms?

My situation sounds similar to yours. Recently diagnosed w Graves (although I am not convinced) My TPO antibodies are 1211. Endo said RAIU immediately. I said no, Endo said Methmizole. I tried it for 1 month, Read side affects and stopped. Now I am trying some Natural supplements. I did have to add a small dose Beta Blocker for heartrate 115-130. But I am feeling better and hoping it will run its course and get better. I was much younger 33 yrs ago I ws diagnosed with Hashimotos, went on Synthroid for 10 yrs and cut it in half All Labs were normal. Finally I stopped it ALLTOGETHER nd checked labs yearly. For the last 25 YEARS I haven't taken synthroid and been FINE until now ??? I was wondering WHAT you convinced the DOCS to try INSTEAD of meds or surgery ? I can tell you the names of my supplements if you want them. Thanks

I think I am close, but not quite in remission. I still take 20 MG a week of methimazole and will try to go off entirely the first week of March which will be my two year mark. My grandma successfully went into remission for the rest of her life after her 2 yr mark but my Mom was pressed to have RAI immediately upon diagnosis. Based on what my doctors told me I probably would have too if I didn't have TED..but am glad I took the suppression therapy route. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a good outcome!

Hi,
I have Graves Disease diagnosed first when I was 38 years old. I was in remission for 12 years after 2 years of  meds. Then in remission second time for 5  years. Both times I took PTU. It seems that a major physical change in my body triggers it, which of course causes stress, another major trigger.
Last year I had chemo for ovarian cancer. Now it seems off again. Doctor is talking about me taking methimazole this time. Waiting for new test results.
Good luck.
