Goiter Draining question

by scamommie, Oct 01, 2007 07:58PM
I would love to have my goiter drained but do not know what to ask for.  When I say I want my goiter drained I never receive a call back from doctors office...dumb as dirt...what is the medical procedure name for having a goiter drained? thanks

From what I understand, the word goiter refers to an enlarged thyroid.  If you have a cyst within the thyroid, that might be drained. Perhaps you could be more specific about your symptoms or condition.

Here's some good information about goiters and treatment:  http://www.endocrineweb.com/goiter.html

Goiters cannot be "drained" - only thyroid cysts can.  You need a good endocrinologist who specializes in thyroids to talk to about your goiter and treating it

i cannot take syntroid, it made my goiter larger, and i felt like i was going to have a heart attack, my recent tsh was like 32. currently im takin nothing. no one wants to help me, they think im nuts or something, my quality of life is terrible, i cant take hormone, and i feel myself getting worse,  what could be wrong with me, im baffled, could there be a reason my body is rejecting the hormone, even a small amount, i feel like im being poisoned when i take it, its causing me so much distress, i just know this is gonna kill me,  sometimes i feel also like im going to faint

When I first started taking levothyroxine, I too did not feel well.  I was already having heart palpitations prior to beginning the levo, but I felt they increased dramatically upon taking 50 mcg of levo.  The doc had me back off to 25 mcg for 4 weeks and then pushed it back up to 50 mcg.  While I still didn't feel well for several months and the  palpitations continued (lasting for hours each day), I was able to push through and finally started feeling better.

Have you tried starting off with a very low dose and increasing it from there?  Also, maybe you could try visiting a different endocrinologist?  You need to find someone who will listen.

I have an enlarged thyrod or goiter ???  The dr did a biopsy and found some cells but not enough to be conclusive on anything. He said to wait 3 months and come back. I am on synthroid 112. I have now lost my insurance and I feel it pressing into my throat more, small pills and some food always feels like it is stuck there. Ant suggestions?
