Graves and Blood alcohol level

I have Graves disease and take Armour. Stupidly, I had several drinks and drove my car.  I was pulled over and my blood alcohol was almost 2!  I only had 2 glasses of wine!  Could Graves disease have affected my alcohol level?

WELCOME to our Community!  I am not sure, but may depend on the size of the glasses.

It takes approximately 1 hour for the liver to de-tox the alcohol out of the body. A standard drink of wine is 275ml (9.29 oz) If you have 2 of that size within that hour your blood alcohol level will go up. If you have two in less than half an hour you will no doubt be over the legal driving limit. Women metabolise alcohol faster than men, and smaller bodies do so faster as well.
So No, the Graves is not the issue. The amount and time of the drinking is the issue.

I know from having been in the US the glass for wine is huge....here in Australia we have a law that it must be only 275ml or less. If you poured your own you may find it was far more than you realised. I know that one glass of wine in the USA I had was approx 3 times more than a standard glass back here. Boy! Did I feel shmozzled!
I have a personal rule.... ONE drink NO drive! It just isn't worth it!

I think it also depends on whther you ate before the wine or whether you drank on an empty stomach.
As for thyroxin putting the levels up....I doubt it as I have been breathalized and come back as zero and I am on prescription meds as well as thyroxin.
Although I do know that the contraceptive pill can give you an alcohol reading but only a very small one.

I have also found that I cannot drink more than 2 glasses of wine (275ml) or I feel totally wasted.

We have a strict policy here in Australia as Redhead said so basically ...if you drink, you dont drive.
It really isnt worth it.

I don't drink very often, but when I do - I find too that the alcohol affects me more when I'm more hypo.... AND it makes a difference whether I've eaten before and what activity I might be engaged - just sitting around, I'll be affected more quickly than if I'm moving around, like dancing or something.

Drinking and driving do NOT mix, no matter what part of the world you are in.  I would never get behind the wheel no matter what if I were drinking - it's not worth it...........
