HEART PALPITATIONS

by Liz1900, Mar 12, 2008 09:51AM
Hi,

I have posted from time to time on this board and found it so helpful.  I am finally going to have my appointment and bloodwork with my doctor on Monday, Mar 17th.  I have been on Armour thyroid for 40 years with no problems and I guess from what I have read, I should consider myself very fortunate.  In December I started with the heart palpitations and feeling bad.  This has continued more than not until present time.  I was decreased from 135 mg to 120 mg to 90 mg and lowered my dosage to 75 mg (I informed my doctor and he said that was fine if I was feeling better with that dose).  That was about 5 weeks ago and although I have felt better, I still have the strange heart racing from time to time.  Mostly I have it prior to waking and it rather wakes me up - sometimes my pulse will be within normal range for me mid 60's to mid- 70's.  This morning it was 80's.  I can't understand this as even if it is in normal range - I can feel it beating.  It drives me crazy and then I don't feel good.  I know it could be anxiety, because I will admit that I am stressed out with having this for three plus months with little improvement and only temporarily.  Dr. Lupo said that the T3 in Armour is heart stimulating and since I am not young, perhaps it is no longer agreeing with me.  I am really rather afraid to change medication too, if the doctor suggests that.

Just wondered if anyone has that same sensation - waking to heart racing and feeling it whether in normal range or higher.  I know from how I feel that my normal heartbeat when I can't feel it is in the 60's to say low 70's....although I know normal RANGE is 60-100.....

Hope to get some kind of satisfaction from my doctor's appointment . although this seems to be a trial and error thing from what I read on the boards.  I am asking for more extensive testing than just TSH upon advice from the boards.  Can anyone recommend exactly what I should ask for?

Thanks,
Liz

Without meds, my heart rate was over 100 most of the time. I could feel it flutter for sure!
Scary isn't it?

Don't let that go on too long.....bad things happen.

Hi,

I am on Armour thyroid and never had any problem until December.  All of a sudden the medicine seems to be too much for me and even though it has been adjusted several times, it still seems too much - anyway bloodwork next week will tell the status.

Yes, it is very scary - and I have had EKG's, eccocardiogram, wore a halter monitor for 24 hour heart monitoring - with all normal results....so doctor still thinks it is my thyroid.

Thanks for your input,
Liz

Yes, I have had Heart Palpitations for over 2 yrs now. Last year I was rushed to hospital because I was having them while at my GP. It scared them so I was immediately admitted to hospital for observation? They put me on Blood thinners (cause they said my blood was very thick and sticky) and also put me on High Blood pressure meds. They have calmed the dancing of my heart down somewhat. But sometimes I still feel it when I go to lie down. Good Luck with that.
