Hi Deb,

I am curious why you are taking Armour? That drug is normally used to treat underactive thyroid and could be making your hyperthyroid symptoms worse.  The beta blockers will help with your high BP and high heart rate and palps until  your thyroid levels are brought closer to normal.

The uptake scan will help determine how over-active your thyroid is.  It sounds like you have some of the signs of the eye disease that sometimes is related to Graves (but also can be related to Hashimotos).  Did your doctor do blood tests to test for the antibodies that cause Graves?  There are 2 different antibodies associated with Graves (but I don't remember which ones).

I have Graves and Graves Eye Disease, and was treated for little over a year with anti-thyroid medication.  When I talked with my endo about a more "definitive" treatment, he really discouraged me from chosing RAI as it sometimes causes eye problems to get worse, and I really had enough eye problems already.  I chose TT and am very glad I did.  It has been just about 2 years since my surgery and I feel better now than I have in years, even years before I was actually diagnosed.

Good luck.  I suggest reading as much as you can find so you are as well informed as possible when you go back to talk to your doctor.
