I lost a lot of hair this year too. I was diagnosed w/graves and treated w/RAI. I started losing hair when I was severely hypothyroidHypothyroidism Hypothyroidism - primary Hypothyroidism - secondary Neonatal hypothyroidism Primary and secondary hypothyroidism. It started coming out in January and was getting better by May. In June, I would say it finally stopped. It is frightening but it did stop. I had my ferratin checked and it was low at 14. Low end of normal is 10. I started taking iron to boost my ferratin levels. I just wanted to let you know that it does stop. No one could tell me what the cause was. It could have been from the system in shock after graves and then hypo, just being hypothyroid or the medicine I was on. (levoxyl). hang in there, i know it isn't easy. it bothered me a lot.
I lost about 60% of my hair after RAI. I continued on for a while and my skin went bad also. The dermatologist said that my hair follicles all died at about the same time due to the stress of it. I regained about half of the hair that I lost (which wasn't so bad because I had lots of thick hair) so my hair is more normal than thick/thin. The strangest thing is that my hair came back curly/wavy...when before I was treated it was straight as a board! :)
I know have it all back after getting on the right meds after RAI.
I don't think that you'll lose all of your hair by any means. It may thin out until you get your thyroid levels in check but, you won't go bald.
