Hair Loss

by Nadine1372, Oct 23, 2009 02:25PM
I have Graves disease and I am taking Tapazole since 6 months. First 4 months, I was hyper and was taking 20mg/day. The last 2 months, I turned to Hypo and reduced the dose to 15mg/day then 10mg/day. Since I started being hypo, I am experiencing a rapid hair loss. I would say that I lost between 30-50% of my hair. I am applying Minixodil for women since one month and I have not seen any improvement.
Is this because of Graves Disease or is it a side effect of Tapazole. Is there any supplement that I should take to solve or at least improve my hair loss problem like Zinc or DHT Blockers or Iron?.

For some it falls out in hand fulls. I lost a ton of it when I was Graves and on Methimozole ( sp?)

Zinc may help some. My doctor did say zinc could help. I just let it take it's course - some can't let that go on though.

Its all to do with the thyroid levels.
A lot of Hashi's people suffer with hair loss.
Personally I had a few times where my hair was in the bath and an unusual amount but it sorted itself out in time.
Just how hypo have you gone on the Methimazole?
What are your levels?

When I was hyper- my hair came out in copiously amounts, but now that I am stabilized on Methim. everything is fine.  Be patient- it should get better.
