Hair Loss

Please look at this picture and tell me if my thyroid issues could cause this. My head is itchy with bumps that are small and some that are large. My hair has been thinning and is now falling out fast. I'm taking my medicine and nothing is changing.

Thank you for your support. I'm not sure about Cortisone. When I was about 10 or 11 years old, I got bugs bites from playing in the woods. I covered my legs with Lots of Cortisone and had big problems with my blood sugar. The doctors couldn't say for sure that it was the cortisone but they said that it could affect blood sugar levels. I'll look into it. Thank you again.

Most times the hair loss from alopecia can be fixed with the hair folicles being stimulated by cortisone cream for a few weeks.
As much as I hate cortisone cream, I used it years ago after a haematoma (blow to the back of the head and blood clot) as my hair just wouldnt stop falling out.
Within weeks it had grown back , it grew back short and spikey at first (fuzzy) but then grew back normal.
Take Care and I hope your stress levels subside very soon for you.

I understand your point. I've been realizing this the hard way. I've gone to the ER for diabetes issues (DKA) and others, in the past and had to tell them what to do. Simple things like insulin, IV fluids, basic stuff to start and then find out WHY. Most of the time it was an infection or flu. It's scary that they can miss things that can change your life. Thanks for your help...I need it.

Yes get them... its a cr@p shoot to just assume things without actually getting your labs. If you get them you can analize each test online to find things out yourself.

I had a full panel of labs that I had to dig apart. They spend maybe 15 minutes looking at them and sending the results. I spent hours taking each one and combining it with the others to find my fault.

I'm not sure about the tests that they have done. Didn't even get any numbers on thyroid or what they should be. They just said that it's not right. I'll find out.  Thank you!!!!

Oh it's stressed that wrong. the only thing is you are also low functioning with some hormones. Maybe more than just thyroid too - you could have your adrenals stressed out and sending you mixed signals.

This is not good if they are only testing your thyroid. HAve they done an ACTH test for adrenals? You need those looked at.

Very Stressed. Diabetes is causing stress. Thyroid is causing Stress. We bought a house and moved last year. Not even unpacked when Hurrican IKE destroyed my new house. I was also dealing with an insurance company over a car accident from Dec. of 2007, very hard to deal with. Now I'm stressed because I don't know what's wrong with me!!!

I agree with Deb - this may be a combonation of things and this looks like stress Alopecia along with possible low thyroid hormones.

What is going on? are you stressed?

I lost some hair but not to the extent that you have BUT I did lose hair like that from ALOPECIA and was given a cortisone cream to make the hair grow back.
The Alopecia was from chronic stress.
I think a Dermatologist is the answer to your hair problem loss.

Taking your medicine is one thing.  Taking enough medicine to get your biologically active thyroid hormones (FT3 and FT4) up to a level that will alleviate your symptoms is another matter.  If you will please post whatever thyroid test results that you have, along with their reference ranges, members can provide the best response.
