Hair Loss

I was having usual symptoms of hypothyroidism - fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, hair loss, etc.  Have been on Levothyroxine for several months now and have seen improvements in all symptoms except hair loss.  I'm also on Plavix (due to a TIA), which I understand can also cause hair loss.  I started on it shortly before beginning to exhibit thyroid symptons.  I've had breast cancer, so can't take estrogen. Testosterone test was normal, so that's not the cause of the hair loss anyway.  It's substantial and is becoming embarrasing.  I'm also taking supplements, including Fish Oil, which I understand also acts as a blood thinner.  I'd like to stop the Plavix (which I assume is the problem) and increase the Fish Oil and perhaps add Vitamin E, also a blood thinner.  Any comments or suggestions?  (My doctor is not into natural supplements as an answer to medical problems.)

I hear you there. I know allot of us gals have had to buy wigs. It will grow back it will just have to finish the major shedding and heal itself. Once the hair that breaks off heals it does grow back. For me it was harder to lose my hair than to have cancer!! I had over three feet of hair!! Talk about a tangled mess it was so dry and brittle. I tried Shampoos you name it I tried it. Hang in there. It will come back and you might just get more hair that you ever imagined...

Thanks for the encouraging words.   I've been on the med for six and a half months, with no lessening of hair loss.  But, based on your experience, I'll look for an improvement any day now!

Once Hair loss has accoured it takes a good six months to see improvement. Hair and Nails after Cancer and or any type of surgery can cause hairloss. I suffered hairloss after a TT and RAI going hypo is the cause!! Once the Hormones are leveled out the hair loss will slow down mine has!! I cut off ALLOT of hair. Trimming it to a shorter legnth can really help if your hair is real heavy, for sure. But do not give up! It will slow down with a correct doasage on the meds.
Hair and nails are the last to heal.
