Hair Stories

I would like to hear from anyone who has had their hair grow back after thinning badly.  Mine started thinning before I was diagnosed and medicated and since it seems to be thinning faster.  I have been tested once since my initial diagnosis and my TSH reduced from 311 to 52 over 3 weeks.  I am due to be tested again in another weeks time.  I have read this before but I am not sure whether it is because of the condition itself (out of balance) or the medication.

Anyone that has something of interest to write I'd love to hear from you.

Smiles
Tara

Looking back I think I started out hyper... which sounds like what you are describing.  No sleep, resting heart rate through the roof and ridiculously anxious..  Not good memories.  Then for a period of about 10 years I think I was hypo and just getting gradually and gradually worse until there was no denying the symptoms.

Well I've been on the medication Thyroxine for a little over a month now and it has pretty much reversed all my symptoms and my hair has stopped falling out. Yay !!  I haven't had another blood test done yet since my THS was reviewed from 311 to 52 and so now I'm hoping to be back closer to a normal range.  I hadn't realized how fatigued and bloated and anemic I really was.  My husband for the first time in our marriage has said that I am now warm in bed instead of being freezing.  The only strange side effect I have noticed is that I am itchy at times.  I am never normally itchy??? So this is a little new for me.  But considering the massive relief of all the other symptons (yay for NORMAL periods) I am really happy !

When I first became hypothyroid (late teens) I would lose quarter-sized patches of hair. These would grow back, fall out, grow back. I had bad luck with medication of my condition. It gave me the jitters, so I never really took it. I think my thyroid function at some point returned to normal (no hair loss), only to return later in life when I was suffering from exhaustion and insomnia and everything went haywire. Now that I think about it, I also suffered from exhaustion when I had the first bout of hypothyroidism.
