hi valerie-
yes she helped by validating my symptoms physical mental etc but she was sure Armour was the answer to hair loss and all other symptoms - yes for 1-2 mos it was but then I went hyper worse than I ever have because of the T3 being so potent in natural - tried synthetic and cytomel cutting a .5 cytomel into little fragment - still too strong - yet I've met older women who've been on Armour for years and swear by it - wish that could be me - anyway - I still keep it in the back of my mind to try again - for now I can manage the hi/low on levoxyl w/ doctor, labs & watching symptoms carefully - I never did a chat room ever until this one last week and it saved my sanity and confirmed others are Hashitoxicosis too - naturopath also found my food allergy that allergists tested for and said was negative - funny huh - no wheat no cow milk for me - word of caution - some naturopaths will let you use/abuse herbs, Armour or whatever and this is dangerous - I would talk to real doc you trust, always have your blood work done & check into less dangerous homeopath methods like exercise good diet eliminating possible allergens, and things more like yoga accupuncture if you have the money - if you dont ymca offers scholarships and most have yoga classes - keep me posted - terri :)
Did the naturopath method help?
yes - I had hair loss on Armour too - I had hair loss prior to diagnosis also - heres the deal I'm Hashimotos (hypo) but alternate hypo/hyper - at low or high end I lose hair - right smack in the middle I have shiny soft hair which stays on my head - problem is catch 22 - have to stay on thyroid hormone to avoid hypo but always go hyper on any med any dose and I've done them all - my doctor lets me reduce dose/ or stop a few days when I go hyper because of scary heart stuff digestive stuff - I dont recommend this because we all have such different levels etc - naturopath gave me tons of good advice years ago - watch your hair and nails they are fast reliable indicators of health so that is my first clue I'm out of wack hi or low - hope that helps - as women its devastating losing our hair - hugs
I know you think it is the meds.
I have seen others post hair loss as one of their symptoms before taking any meds.
I realize it is possible that both the disease and the medication could cause the same affect, but it is not likely. It is more likely one or the other, not both.
So I was just asking for my own edification.
Sorry you have had this happen. I hope you get it stopped soon. I have noticed thinning hair, finer hair, and a receding hairline myself, but not losing clumps or patches.
thats the problem. it could be either. Right now i'm not on medication but my endo says the meds stay in your system for 6 weeks. its been exactly 6 weeks and my hairs still falling out. all i know is that before being diagnosed as "hypothyroid," i had beautiful, long thick hair. so...im thinking its the meds. honestly, im so frickin lost.
Is it the Synthroid causing the hair loss or is it the disease?
I always assumed hair loss was a possible symptom of Hypothroidism, not a result of the medication.
