OMG RODEO ----- Yeeee Haaaawwwwww! I've missed you hun!!!!
I knew a little of what you were dealing with, your mom came on once or twice right after your surgeries! I am ssooooooooo glad you are doing o.k and could you please tell me how it is you are the "queen" of good energy?!?! I just love your "gotta get it" attitude. We've all missed you very much!
I wish I could give some good advice about the hair - not had to deal with that yet - but if you have weight loss suggestions, I am all ears (or eyes - I guess) - HA!
So glad to see you coming around again and I hope everything continues well for you, if anyone deserves it, its you my dear!
I wrote in another thread about my hair loss...it came after RAI...I was hyper with Graves and my thyroid went from full blast out of control to a dead stop...my TSH level was 99.8 at the time of testing...unfortunately testing took two weeks because I was in Northern Japan and it had to be sent stateside for testing. So, I was pretty hypo by the time they found out. I suffered a thyroid storm...lost 60% of my hair...my skin went defunct...looked thick and shiny but was dry as all get out...it was gross but now I look back I can laugh about it. My hair did not come back 100%, and it came back in curly/wavy...it was straight as a board all my life. The dermatologist said that when we suffer extreme hair loss it is due to sudden death of the follicules...and in the case of thyroid issues...our bodies shut off what we don't need to survive when a trauma (even mild) hits our bodies. So, about 50% of your hair shut down to preserve what you do need...which is a good thing...and it will start growing back when your levels are adjusted back to where they should be.
I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry about it...you'll have beautiful bouncy hair again soon! ;)

I'm with you on being ready for fall. I absolutely LOVE this time of year, just wish it would last as long as our winters do.
I'm doing fine thyroid wise. I'm so happy that they seemed to get the right dose for me the first time around. I feel pretty darned good. I go back in for my yearly scan the second week of October - with thyrogen shots this time, thank goodness! I'm hoping and praying for nothing lighting up at that time. The doc that I had retired, so I get to meet my new one too. I'm friends with one of the girls that works in nuclear med, and she said that she's in her 40's and really nice. Now, if she knows her stuff and listens to her patients, she'll be perfect! :-)
So glad to see you around a bit, but am sorry that you can't post more often!! I'm with stella.....if I had the way to get you a new 'puter, I certainly would!
Take care and keep that positive attitude. It will make a world of difference as you go through everything that you are!!
Hey Rodeo! You've had quite a year, haven't you? As for the hair loss, it happened to me too after the RAI treatment and more so after the synthroid. My hair came out so bad that I had to get a hair cut to keep from looking like a punk rocker. It took me about two months to get use to not having hair, but I figured I would get a wig. Everybody liked the one inch hair so i left it. Your tsh level is still pretty high, which could be the reason your hair is still dropping.
I'm sad you can't post anymore too---especially since you will be laid off and everything else that has been going on in your life this past year.
Stay postive and something good will happen. We just have to hope and pray for the best. I pray that all will go well with you and your family.
Take care and be bless!!
Terri
Oh cr@p
forgot you question. :)
You may want to consider getting on some Omega 3 and 6 - lube the insides to strengthen hair follics.
No perms or dyes. Natural shampoos -
basic rule - don't put anything on your hair or skin you can't eat!
Your levels must come down for your hair to grow back. Hey - take a look at my new pics I am on there with all my hair back.
I wish I would have taken one when my hair was falling out. It was horrible so you could compare . Now I got ALOT again.
You have been missed something fierce here RQ
I sure have been thinking of you on and off.
Sorry about the whole year thing. =- What a bummer it has been for you.
Again - I admire your attitude as I always have. Your looking forward to fall!!
You ARE always looking for the positive in many things no matter what the world dishes to you -
There is a reason you have been put through all the he// - Your stiff chin and positive attitude will guide you through it and so TOTALLY -- you WILL get a reward.
I'm sad you can't post more ---especially since you will be laid off. Can anyone tweek your computer better for a while so you can stick around some?
Geez - If I had an extra couple of hundred lying around - I'd mail you a lap top just to keep you on the board more often!! - seriously. :)
Me too! I am not sure how much more I can take!!! I do not know or want to ask what else can happen. I know I feel like I have been neat or hit by a train!!!
On the bright side I know that fall is just around the corner that is ,y favorate time of year I am glad to see the Hot weather pulling away!
So how are you? How has your trip with thyroid been?
HI to all miss talking on the board I love to read it every day I just cannot post! I need to update my profile this week so WATCH for that!!!!
LOVE and hugs to all!!!

Wow, you're on a high dose! When you say your doc said you "must have been hypo before RAI and real bad after", does that mean he didn't check your levels? I was without meds after TT for 7 weeks. The week before RAI, my tsh was at 131. 4 days later it was 145. So yes, it does rise quickly. But it comes down quickly on the meds too.
I'm sorry to hear that you're losing your insurance too! Anything else to make you stress out? Just so you know, my insurance will not cover the brand drug that I'm on (Levoxyl). I pay about $58 for a three month supply. It's worth it to me to feel good!
Like your doc said, be patient. I know it's hard when clumps of hair are falling out. But once your levels get where they need to be, and they STAY there, you should see improvement in the hair department too. You won't feel as tired either.
You take care, and I hope that nasty dark cloud that seems to be hovering over you MOVES away soon!
Hi there,
I have had a rough year!!! OMG!!! I was on levoxyl for only 5 weeks it made me hypo at 200MCG then he switched me to Synthroid 200mcg on the 2nd of SEP so I guess not that long he said I must have been hypo before RAI and real bad after...BUt now I am losing my insurance wonder what I should do between now and the end of the month? I get unemployment and cobra. BUT my kids will not have any I gotta get on the ball and apply all over the place for one! I am doing ok. Sick of moving stuff around nad feeling tired. Hair loss. Tired, and a freaking cold!!!! A LIL stress. TEE HEE!
Heather
Hey Rodeo! You've had quite a year, haven't you? As for the hair loss, it happened to me too when I was hypo. Your tsh level is still pretty high, which could be the reason your hair is still dropping. How long have you been on the meds originally, and why did they switch you? They'll most likely keep you a little on the hyper side for cancer suppression.
I've been on Levoxyl for a year now, and I noticed about 6 months after taking it that I had a lot of new hair growth. Not only the hair on my head, but my eyelashes too! Those were dropping out and very sparse too. I felt so stinkin' pretty......NOT!
Glad to see you stop by!
