Has anyone developed a Thyroid Transplant

by Thyroid4me, Dec 09, 2008 09:40AM
a Year ago there was a posting about this topic. Has anyone started using the idea yet???? I will be the first one in line for the procedure!!  One year ago I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer due to a metastised lymphnode on the right side of my neck.  Since then my body has completely taken effects!  i have gained over 40 lbs, and have developed metabolic syndrome as well as occasional high blood pressure which causes migraines.  I have been on a very high dose of synthroid for 6 months with no signs of weight lose, only irrateability.  I took a 300mcg pill for 3months - my TSH was .003!!! I was off the charts.  The weight should have been peeling off of me, but it didn't.  NOw I am on 200mcg which I usually adjust to 150mcg a few times a week so that my levels aren't so high.  I can't get anyone to adjust my dosage properly, because my insurance won't cover a "pre-exsisting condition".  I am fed up with this, I just want my thyroid back!  at least then I could take diet pills to loose the weight!  PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS OF ANYONE DOING THYROID TRANSPLANT (EVEN EXPERIMENTAL) PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Thanks :)

Sorry. No such thing at the moment.

I heard on the news that scientists grew a new trachea for some woman, from HER OWN T cells. So much for needing T cells from aborted babies...

But, haven't heard of anyone cloning thyroid glands. A new pancreas for my diabetic son would be nice.

With the economy tanking and socialized healthcare right around the corner, I think it will be decades before any real advances are made in the field of cloning.

I'd take a new pancreas for my diabetic son also, or some new joints, muscles, etc for my daughter with lupus.

I'm sorry you are having such symptoms. I don't have cancer, but I do have hypothyroidism, along with the weight problem and it seems that no matter what I do, I can't lose more than a pound or 2, then all I have to do is look at food and I gain them right back, sometimes along with a few of their buddies; not to mention a ton of other symptoms, but am hoping to get some answers and get things leveled out soon.  Same for you.
