I have officially been DX with Hashimoto. Now what exactly does this mean? She has given me sample meds of Synthroid 50 mcg (.05mg). Will retest blood in 6 weeks. Does anyone have good things to say about the weight gain part. Like how you lost alot of weight when put on meds for this condition. I would so love to lose weight again.
Don't mean to sound pessimistic, but don't look for the weight to go away any time soon!! I was dx'd with hypothyroidism in June 08 and Hashi's in Dec 08. I've been on various amounts of synthroid since June and despite being careful of what I eat, along with exercise, I have yet to lose more than a pound or so and that's usually back again in a couple days.
I gained 16 kilograms prior to RAI & TT (GravesGraves disease and Hyperthyroidism) and 7 months later, I have lost probably 2 kilograms (4.4lbs) as my levels are now starting to balance out.
T4T4 test med will not make you lose the weight. You can workout 24/7 and if your levels are 'out' then you will not lose much weight.
Get your levels right first then concentrate on the weight loss.
Get your mind and body well before even thinking about the weight loss and it will eventually come.
Eat properly and eat as little packaged foods as possible and eat plenty of fresh foods.
I found when I was Hypo that I could eat nothing and still gained.
Its a long road but patience is needed and that is what will set you towards a healthy life.

Thats ok I kinda figured, was just hoping. I've spent 2 years trying to lose weight. I tried the Progesso Soup diet and the Kelloggs Diet. Counted calories again, thats how I lost weight back in 2005. Thought I'd try again, and nothing. So now that I know it couldn't be helped I feel better. You know my DH always said we'll you eat to much ****, that's why you're not losing weight. How in the hell does he know what I put in my mouth all day long?! I kept telling him something was off. I kept trying to lose, and nothing happened. I have weighed 150 for 3 years. Couldn't lose, couldn't gain, now all the sudden within the last two weeks I've gained 5 lbs.
My doctor told me I'm not hypo yet, but eventually I will be. So we will just keep checking the blood levels, and changing the meds as needed.
She was also checking my glucose level for diabetes since it also runs in my family.
The delivery service lost my blood in route. Hospital took blood and sent to lab. Lab never received. So now I have to take a two hour blood glucose blood test again. NOT happy about that.
I have diabetes in my family and as of yet, have no signs of it but get regular checks.
That was why I was worried about my weight.
But 99% of Diabetes Type II is obesity and not hereditary.
Hope that hepls.
Yeah, That's a good question everyone asks me all the time. So you have hypothyroid. When does the weight leave you?? LOL. Well, I went down from a size 18 to a 14. A little over 7 months. Some of the fluid in my face is going down. I am just wondering when all of this fantastic energy is coming my way. Well, soon I retest:)
It does take time for the med to work and you will need to get all your levels balanced before you will be able to lose the weight. Hang in there.
Also maybe you will be one of those lucky ones that just balances right away and loses all the weight in no time.
