Welcome to thyroid brain fog! :-)
Many of us thyroid kids also have other autoimmune problems. It's such a lovely little basket of joy, isn't it? When you can get in to see your Rheumy, ask about chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. Isn't it great having such a large medical team in your address book. :-/
Here's something to try (and I'm sure that some MD somewhere will growl over this) . . . don't let them give you any more antibiotics for this right now. They don't seem to be doing you any good and are probably making some things worse. I have IBS and I know that when I have to be on antibiotics for sinus problems it makes the rest of my body freak out. Here's what I have to do (and my doctor's even agree): Get some acidophilus from the pharmacy or health food store and start taking it. Eat some yogurt too (with active cultures). Antibiotics can kill off the good flora in your digestive tract which will give you stomach aches, mess up your colon, can make you break out, and can give you a yeast infection/thrush.
Also, Lyrica can cause muscle pain and confusion. It is for convulsions, diabetes related nerve damage, and shingles. You might want to check out their patient information: http://www.pfizer.com/pfizer/download/ppi_lyrica.pdf
Yeah, call the Rheumy. You need a doctor who can coordinate all of your medical care and maybe she could be the one for you.
Try to take it easy and take some time for yourself this season! Go get a massage or take a walk - just find time to breath and de-stress! Let us know.
my rheum I have only seen once but she is a super super nice lady. She is the one who referred me to my current endo (who she knows personally). I'm told he's one of the best in my state! I've been told that by a couple dr's not just her:O). He's the one who diagnosed me with hasimotos. He ran a bunch of tests and reviewed my history in detail. He wants me to get follow up work in mid-Jan then follow up with him a few months from that. He is soo hard to get an appointment with but worth the wait. Anyways, I need to call and get an appt with her because I was supposed to follow up with her and I forgot to make the appointment. My memory is shot lately... I cant even remember small things Ive remembered for years lately... its annoying me like crazy. Thanks for your advice! I will call and make an appy with the rheumy a.s.a.p.
I had to live with a misdiagnosis of Lupus for about 9 months (immediately following the birth of my youngest). I read everything and pretty much was ready to say my goodbyes. Then I found a good Rheumy who correctly diagnosed me.
If you have a good rapport with your Rheumy, can you talk to her about your possible Hashimoto's and your constant pain? My Rheumy diagnosed me as having a raging case of Fibromyalgia and put me on a low dose of a tricyclic antidepressant and sent me to a massage therapist who did "trigger point massage" (painful but helps the muscles release toxins). It really saved my sanity and reduced the pain.
Thyroid problems aren't generally in a Rheumy's scope but she may be able to confirm your diagnosis or find a correct diagnosis. Best of all she may know of an Endo (*IF* you do have Hashi's) who she can recommend you see.
Hang in there. Autoimmune disorders are so frustrating and can drive you mad. Hang tough.
I've gone to an endocrinologist. He is the one who diagnosed me with Hashimotos ...well said thats what it most likely was. But the meds aren't making much of a diffrence. Before him ...nobody even got that far. Dr's tried to tell me I had lupus probably for awhile but finally I got a rheumotologist that knew what she was talking about and she ran some other test went over my history and said I didnt have it. She was wonderful, sat down and explained everything to me in detail. Anyways, I'm just lost. I've been to 2 or 3 endos.
Please, please find an endocrinologist. You need to be tested for thyroid problems/antibodies and other autoimmune disorders (Hashimoto's, lupus, RA, etc). Call around and find an endocrinologist who specializes in thyroids (many only deal with diabetes). When you find one, explain to the office staff what you have been experiencing and see if you can get in ASAP.
Your body is giving clues that it is in crisis - it seems that antibiotics aren't the answer. Please call and find and endo tomorrow! If that is fruitless, you might try a rheumatologist (they treat lupus, RA, etc.).
There are medical professionals out there who care and just won't give you yet another type of antibiotic to try. This is your body and your health - there are doctors who will act as *partners* in your health care, sometimes we just have to weed out the bad ones first.
Hang in there.
