I was just DX with Hashi, not hypo yet, and I was given Synthroid. So far I have gained about 3 lbs. But so worth it, because the other symptoms are less. I just hope that when my hormones level out, I can go on a diet and loose weight finally.
Thanks for telling me that. I just don't understand the weight gain thing with synthyroid. What was your TSH? How long were you on the meds? I would like my symptoms better but I don't want any weight gain. I weigh 100lbs. Why do Dr's say you don't gain weight from it? My dr. told me it will correct any weight gain if that happens. Is it because you need to be on the right dose? How long til you gained the 3 lbs? Do you work out? I do. Does synthyroid make people hungry or something? How long have you had hashimotos? Thanks for answering.
I was DX in January, I've only been on synthroid about 7 weeks now. I really don't know what my TSH is, back in 2007 it was 3.77. My DR just told me I had Hashi antibodies, but I wasn't Hypo yet.
I don't have time to work out. I work 9 hours a day then go home to 2 young children. So if you call house work excercise then I work out.
Your TSH of 2.44 for some would be seen as hypo... I was 2.75 and kept getting told I was normal, but had all the symptoms of hypo...a lot of years later I was diagnosed Hashimoto's too. Antibodies were 1442 5 months AFTER I had the left lobe out!
My case is similar to yours. YOU know your body and if you feel hypo then you ARE hypo.
Not everyone gains weight with the Synthroid, we just hear about them more than the ones that don't!
I have actually LOST weight since I started on my medication, Oroxine...as it is called in Australia. So don't be disheartened.
Do take some medication, you will no doubt feel a lot better for it.
You will never lose the Hashimoto's but at least the Synthroid should help ease some of the symptoms.
Cheers!
