If your toe is actually swollen then I would assume that there is a chance that something is there. If the swelling and pain have not gone away on their own then I would let the doctor check to see what it is. The last thing you need is for it to be allowed to get infected and cause more issues. Let me know what you find out.
I was examined by a Foot Doctor on Thursday, He took ex rays and said it was a tissue problem (No Bone Fractures)) and the toe was inflamed and swollen, he thought that something had lodged and became sorrounded by tissue and caused the inflammation or maybe a cyst, he did not know, but when I brought up the thyroid issue he stated that "No, its not related" (Why does that not surprise me) He said he would have to make an incision along the outer edge of my toe to find out what was causing the inflammation. My question is, Why cant he do an MRI to see whats there?, because if he does not find anything, I am going to be off my feet for two weeks until the incision heals. So should I get another opinion, or let him do his thing?
Funny you guys should mention this. I have had a numb spot on the bottom of my right big toe, but this is from when I had a c-section. The nerve never repaired itself. However, since I started being symptomatic with my Hashimoto's I have noticed a sharp pain in the area of my big toe that was normally numb. I just though I was occasionally getting some feeling back. LOL
Thank You for the response, I did not think there was anyone else out there that had this symptom, I know I did not have this problem until I started on thyroid meds, and I used to walk 7 miles a day to keep the weight off when I was not working, I have made an appointment with a foot specialist for this thursday, so we will see what he says, I found a condition that is similar on his web-site called "Morton's Nuroma" the symptoms are really close but just like Hashi's there is no cure, it is a nerve damage condition, that causes a burning sensation and numbness of the Ball of the foot and bottom of toes.
But until I get it checked out, I am only guessing. Thanks Again for the response.

I have foot pain also - almost feels like someone is touching my foot with an electric current. I get it in several places - bottom of big toe, top of arch and in the heel and although I do get it in both feet, it's much worse on the right one. So far no explanation, but it didn't start until after my thyroid went "berserk"!!
I also have tingling and numbness in both feet, which is a classic symptom of vitamin B12 deficiency (pernicious anemia) but that's gotten a lot better since I started on B12 shots. Might pay to have your B12 levels checked.
Can't say for sure - but it sure seems like a common ailment for many with thyroid issues.
