Hashimoto's and Diabetes

After 1.5 years of tests, tests, and more tests, my wife has been finally diagnosed with Hashimoto's and is on medication. The doctor also indicated that she was at risk for diabetes (if unchecked). Is this a common connection? In retrospect it seems so (to me)... as my wife has been very sedimentary and gained about 30lbs over the past 1.5, as she has suffered with thyroid problems.

Will it be easier to combat the diabetes as her thyroid comes under control?

Thanks for the info..

Tx all... She's started monitoring her glucose level and we have a "welcome to diabetes class" that we're attending later this week. We (and the doctor) are quite hopeful that, caught early enough we can avoid a full-blown case of diabetes. It's just one more thing to add to her list of ailments however... :(
