Who here has worse Hashi during periods? I asked my endo and he told me he honestly didn't know why but that other parts of the endocrineEndocrine glands Pancreatic islet cell tumor system seem to be affected by Hashi.
Three years ago, prior to the Hashi diagnosis and meds, I had endometriosis.
I am on thyroid medication. My levels are almost where they need to be, but about four days prior to my period, and about four days into my period, my body feels strange, and I get some hyperHyper-sal symptoms. My nodules have shrunk to pencil points, so I don't think my nodules are leaking hormone causing me to go hyperHyper-sal.
I don't know if my cycles affect my Hashi, or if my Hashi affects my cycles, but I definitely get a change in my body, that can't be just PMSPremenstrual syndrome Relieving pms.
I rememeber mentioning this with my post on Edema.. I have documented my last 2 periods and with both of them i had hyperHyper-sal symptoms "even tho i am severly hypo on labs" and i retained a lot of water both times "which isn't normalNormal saline flush for me" AND if that's not enough just to show you the connection in the grand scheme of things... the hashi's causes more water retention during periods which causes inflammation and the inflammation causes carpal tunnel pain for me.. This is not the only thing that is "connected" to my thyroid issues.. one thing is affected by the next and even tho hashimoto's doesn't "cause" some things, it definitely exacerbates them.. Gotta love having a condition that effects so many functions of our body eh?
I was hypo just a few days prior to my cycle. My labs even showed hypo. Then I bumped my meds from 75 to 88 right as I was starting my period, and I felt terribly hyper. And, yes, my neck swelled so much during that time.
I have noted that this seems to happen with every period. In fact, it's the only time I take Motrin for the swelling.
My endo suggested that some of his other patients adjust their meds during those times. He is very flexible, which is why I like him.
Now I'm off my period. He added 5 mcg Cytomel, and so far, I'm still feeling hypo, but I do have a bit more energy.
