Have you been able to "get back to normal" after being treated for Hypothyroidism?

by theysayloveis, Apr 17, 2009 08:42PM
I'm somewhat depressed after reading a lot of information about people who aren't able to lose the weight they gained after being diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism.  Has anyone been able to at least lose some?  If so, how much? Is your hair full again? Eyes not puffy?  Etc.

I'm 23, a female, and soon to meet my endo for the first time.  My TSH has gone from normal to 4.7 (range 0.6-5.6) in 2 years and my last FT4 was 1.02 (range 0.8-1.80).  It's been a nightmare--I think I'm extremely sensitive to the hormonal changes.  I have gained so much weight it's unbelievable, along with literally ALL other classic hypo symptoms.  I am extremely active, exercise often, eat right, not sedentary and now getting depressed and anxious about all the depressing information I'm coming across...

try to get your doctor to give u cytomel

Cytomel is not the answer to weight loss.
Yes, you can lose some of the weight but I'd be a liar if I said you lose it quickly...you dont.
Although since I went hypo with RAI and TT, I have lost 4 kilograms (5lb?) and that was with no diet or weight loss aids/diets.
I did it by getting my levels stable and within range.

I'm not just looking for weight loss.  I'm willing to continue to work out as much as possible, it's just frustrating at this point because it's doing absolutely nothing..

Once your levels stabalise, the weight will come off but ...slowly.
