Having hot flashes and irregular periods, but TSH level is normal.

Hi. I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, but I'm sort of desperate. I've been experiencing hot flashes, hair loss, dry eyes, and irregular periods for about eight months. I visited my doctor in June, and he ordered a thyroid test. My results came back completely normal. I shrugged everything off to stress and went on with my life. Unfortunately, the hot flashes became worse. I went to my doctor again two months ago, and he had my FSH, LH, estradiol, and progesterone levels tested, as he said there was a small chance that I could be experiencing premature ovarian failure. The results were normal. I had all the tests done again last month (including thyroid), and everything was still normal.

My doctor put me on birth control (Tri-Sprintec) this month in hopes that my symptoms would level out. It helped for about two weeks, but now everything's acting up again. Even though my thyroid looked normal on paper, is it possible that it could be the cause of all this? I have a family history of hyperthyroidism (mom and maternal aunt). I really don't want to deal with premature ovarian failure. :( My doctor's totally stumped. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist in February, but I could really use some information now.

Another thought...also have your calcium level checked too..I had similar symptoms and ended up having a parathyroid problem...By the way, any problem with headaches, fatigue, heartburn, kidney stones, gall bladder probs, urinary frequency or unexplained body or joint pain? If so, have the parathyroid hormone levels investigated... ~MM

From what I can see, the only thryoid test they did was TSH.  In order to get a clear picture of what's happening with the thyroid, they would need to do at least TSH, Free T-4, Free T-3, and maybe some tests for anti-bodies.

What thyroid tests did they run? If you have a copy of the lab report, post the tests run, along with results and ranges.  I'm pretty new here, but I'm sure someone will be able to answer some of your questions.
