I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 years ago at age 25. I was put on Synthroid at that time (.088 mcg). I have experienced many ups and downs since then with regard to hair loss, memoryMemory loss Mental status tests issues, fatigue, irritability, and inability to lose weight, all while on medication. I went to an endo to seek input about continued symptoms and tests were run... TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh= 4.25 TPO=303. She switched me to Unithroid (.05 mcg) and said she would see me in 4 months. Since then my TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh has gone down to 2.86, but I was still symptomatic. Dr. said test results show that symptoms are not related to thyroid. Not able to deal with the fatigue any longer, I went back to my primaryPrimary amyloidosis Primary biliary cirrhosis Primary hyperparathyroidism Primary insomnia Primary lymphoma of the brain Dr. and had a B12 test done, results were 346. I am now getting injections.
My question is how does low B12 and Hashimoto's/Hypothyroidisim relate? I have also experienced lots of anxiety (GAD) and was wondering how my hypo or low B12 relates to this. Should the B12 injections and Unithryoid alleviate my symptoms all together or will I always have some minor symptoms? Dr. thinks that TSH in the 2-3 range is adequate. Should I push for a lower TSH? Just wondering if my standards for the alleviation of all symptoms when on medication are too high?
Sorry you didn't get an answer to your question, which is most likely because we don't know, or due to so many repeat and/or similar questions, perhaps it was answered in another post, so you might do a thread/post search.
However, if you haven't already, you might go to the Doctor Thyroid Forum and ask Dr. Lupo at http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/120 OR
at left of page almost top, under "Thyroid Disorders" in red click on "thyroid" it will take you to the forum.
OR
Go to the Medical and Health list of Doctor-to-Patient or Patient to Patient Forums at: http://www.medhelp.org/forums.htm and chose a forum that fits your condition and/or needs.
If you have posted more than one post per the sites rules for doctors forums, you probably won't get answered. Or if the forum is full and not taking any more questions for the day, you can try another day.
A 2-3 TSH may not be low enough for you if your TSH before becomming hypo was lower. TSH should not vary by more than 0.75 in any given person from their normal levels.
Anxiety can be a symptom of hypo as well as hyper.
My b12 is being tested as well. Risk factors for b12 deficiency include autoimmune diseases like hypo, etc.
Look at the archives on the Ask an Expert forum with Dr. Lupo for more info.
