Help Guys-Right supraclavicular lymph node

by treimbol, May 14, 2008 06:31PM
I have swelling in my Right supraclavicular lymph node---the surgeon found it during an exam for my thyroidectomy surgery consult.  I am absolutely flipping out---it was bad enough to get the papillary carcinoma diagnosis...but the thought that it has spread??!  How could this be?  How could no one have found this until now and it's already in my lymph nodes.  I have a sonogram of the neck scheduled for tomorrow---but what does it matter?  It's not going to tell them if it's cancer!
RodeoQueen---which of your lymph nodes were infected?
I was just finally doing okay with my FNAB results thinking that I can beat this no problem and then this comes up!!
Did anyone else experience this and are doing ok??  Is this going to ruin my chances of beating this?
I am soooooo scared!  Someone please help!!

Papillary thyroid cancer, even with lymph node metastases has an excellent prognosis.  Actually, strangely enough, from everything I've read, the prognosis doesn't change at all whether lymph nodes are involved or not.  It's understandable to be scared, but, luckily, our papillary thyroid cancer is very treatable.

Yes, its very common for lymph node involvement with pap thyca - and I have also read that it does not change prognosis.

There is someone who had lymph node involvement who was diagnosed just recently, maybe she will post her experience.

However, does an swollen lymph node automatically mean it too *may* have be cancer?  I had swollen lymph nodes the entire time I was waiting for my surgery, and my doctor said it could have very easily been stressed induced, or my body fighting a cold, or something along those lines.  I had no lymph node involvement with my first surgery, I dont know if there will be with the second surgery.

Do you have a copy of your pathology report that you can post? Also, did you book your surgery today?

I know (trust me, I know) how horribly stressful and difficult this is, but you will get through this - just as I will somehow - we have no choice!!!

Thinking of you.
