Help and Dr. Referral needed.

by JMamacita, May 26, 2009 01:42PM
This is a long story so I will try to make it as short as possible.
I had a choking sensation in my throat 8 weeks ago and my primary sent me to an ENT.
ENT felt a nodule on my thyroid and sent me for a sonogram
ENT never called back with results after 1.5 weeks.
I called radiology clinic that did sono, verified that ENT got results and they offered to give me my results
I have at least 5 nodules on my thyroid
Right lobe has solid cold nodules measuring 2.2 cm, 1.3 cm, .6cm and .3cm
Left lobe has a large complex nodular mass that measures 4.5cm
ENT's nurse called after I left several messages to tell me he has not reviewed my report and will follow up with me in 6 weeks.
I can hardly breathe or swallow mass feels larger daily
I have a family history or thyroid cancer
I called my endo whose nurse put me off and said I whould pursue this with the ENT although I explained he won't call me back!

Long story I am sorry
Can anyone recommend a Dr. in the Dallas area I hate to just pick a name out of a phone book.

Has anyone on here had nodules this large?  If so what did you do?

This won't be too helpful but my husband has nodules similar to the ones in your right lobe but the one in your left lobe does appear on the large size.
My opinion -- get the phone book and call the other endos in your area looking for the earliest appt. Get a copy of your results either from your current endo or lab, you are entitled to have a copy of all reports. Let them know that you know that and don't go back to your current endo again, unless you're getting your file/results. I have currently been thru many doctors and not one has helped me with my problems. Don't feel you have to be loyal - it's your body - your health. Good luck!

Did he have his removed or are they just being watched?

No he hasn't had them removed and they don't seem to be causing him any problems. He does have an ultrasound done annually as do I, I have 3 smaller nodules. You should consult another endocrinologist of course and I'm sure at the least they will want an ultrasound done  annually.  Seems like there are alot of people with nodules so we're definitely not alone. Good luck and don't worry!
