Help my mother please!

Quick question, thyroid nodule, 2*1.2cm and 0.3*0.2cm, calcification, no swelling, the surface is smooth. How to do? Is cancer? Need operation? She doesn't want to do operation.

I'm not an expert on nodules.  From my research, I understand that nodules with calcification can be either benign or malignant.  Other characteristics would have to be taken into consideration.

Are these findings the result of an ultrasound?  Has there been an FNA performed?  FNA can often determine, whether or not a nodule is actually cancer.

Of course, no one wants to have their thyroid removed, but if there's a chance that a nodule might be cancerous, removal is, typically, the best solution, depending on the type of cancer and the age of the patient.
