Help should I have surgery or not?

I have been monitoring nodules for 2-3 years and recently had a hurtle cell and now I am advised to have a TT. I am scared from all of the posts on the negative reactions and physical and emotional things that can happen. Now I am thinking about just waiting to see if anything changes. I have even read that taking meds for thyroid can cause early alzheimers

You only need to cut back on simple carbs, such as sugar, and processed foods made from white flour, rice, etc..  Simple carbs are the ones that spike your blood sugar, resulting in a corresponding insulin spike.

Insulin is known as the fat storage hormone and whatever of those simple carbs that isn't used for energy right away is shuttled, by insulin, into fat cells.

Make sure you eat plenty of complex carbs, such as those found in vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, etc because those are the ones that take a long time to break down, keeping your blood sugar levels more stable.

Check out low glycemic foods and center your meals around those.  If you do eat foods that spike your blood sugar, make sure you pair it with something that will slow its breakdown.

Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are recognized causes of reversible dementia.  Hurtle cells are also seen with Hashimoto's thyroiditis as well.

Alzheimer's disease is also called Type 3 Diabetes. Check out the book: Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar - Your Brain's Silent Killers by David Perlmutter.

When I heard about this book it all clicked as to what was causing my cats dementia symptoms. I took her off all carbs and she improved drastically! Only some mild behavioural issues remain. Other improvements seen included weight loss, improved appetite, increased energy, and no more severely itchy face.
