My mum is 70 and has really high levels of Anti-Thyroid peroxidase. The TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh is just above normalNormal saline flush range (hypothyroidism), however T3 and T4T4 test are within normalNormal saline flush range. Our doc says TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh is just the messenger and hence as long as T3 and T4 are normal no need to start thyroxine.
But I am reading many articles which suggest that high levels of Anti-Thyroid peroxidase require thryoxine replacement. My mum has symptoms such as tightness in chest, frequent unsteadiness and anxiety. She takes some BP medication low-dose.
Is it worthwhile trying out some Thyroxine (Eutroxsig) supplement?
Hashimoto is very common in your mother's age, but TSH gets higher when you get older (so normal range for her is higher too), but having Hashimoto (positive anti-thyroid peroxidase) and symptoms I think she should go to a ENDO and discuss that possibility with him/her. It alll depends on her TSH (is it 3, 4, 5???). But she need to test free T3 and free T4,
