My wife 34 week pregnant and found TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh ultasensative as 5.84 during recent test. it has now increased from 4.2 to 5.84 in two months.
Get back to the Doctor and ask if your wife needs an increase in Thyroxin.
I think he/she may increase it to 3.75mcg daily if he feels she has the need for it.
But dont increase without the Doctors ok.
Your baby is at risk of developing thyroid problems while in-vitro (in the uterus) if the TSH isnt treated.
It is also common for a woman to go either hypo or hyper whilst pregnant.
If your wife is closely monitored then you have nothing to worry about.
Also if its help to you, I had my last 2 children premature at 32 weeks and they weighed in at 3lb 3oz and 3lb 5 oz and were born 23 and 26 years ago and technology has come so far since then.
Both 'tower' over me lol.......I am 5ft 1 and my daughter is 5ft 8 and son 6ft 2 (gawd knows why lol !).
They both have children of their own :)
I had graves disease and hyperthyroidism at the time too (unbeknown to me)
What should be the normal range for TSH ultrasensative during Pregnancy. I have read somewhere that high TSH may affect brain development of baby... is it true ?
Different laboratorys and different countries make it impossible for me to tell you the level for the TSH.
I would just be guessing and I wont do that as i could be wrong.
Maybe someone from the USA can jump in here.
it is normal to have to increase thyroxine monthly during pregnancy.
Your wife should be having her TSH tested every month and likely her dose should be increased every month. The doctor should also test FT4. it should be high normal range, if it is not, the meds also need to be increased.
The TSH is a bit highter than it should be, but not terribly so. Am sure your child will be ok.
Best wishes to you and your wife.
Target TSH during pregnancy for those with hypothyroid is 1.0 or slightly below.
