My lyme dr tested my reverse t3 which was very high. For 5 months I have had stabbing body pains, extreme joint crakcing, muscle twitches, muscle cramps, and random numbnessNumbness and tingling. All tests-mri emg etc were fine. I was CLINICALLY dx with lyme yesterday, meaning I did not have enough positives in my labs but symptoms point to this.
I read that too much reverse t3 could mean Wilsons disease, do my symptoms match?
Ther is another member here wo is going through the initial stages of diagnosing Lyme. Her Lyme specialist told her that reverse T3 can be a problem, although I don't think tests have been run yet.
I will send her a link to this thread and maybe you two can talk.
You mention Wilson’s disease. Here's a link with information on what that is: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/wilson/#who
I think you mean Wilson’s Syndrome, which is a bogus disease. Here’s a link with information that will help you: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/wilsons-syndrome/AN01728
Here’s another link: http://www.thyroid.org/professionals/publications/statements/99_11_16_wilsons.html
I hope you do find answers to what you have going on. But don’t want to see you get side tracked either.
I am the one with Lyme and hypo AR mentions. I know you from the Lyme forum on another site.
I don't know much about reverse T3. I do now that my T3 is at the very bottom of the reference range. I found this out from my endo after seeing the Lyme specilist. He felt I was low on thyroid hormone following my physical exam- notable poor reflexes.
My free t4 is at the bottom of the range as well even though my TSH is perfect at 1.1.
Chronic illnesses like Lyme can inhibit the conversion of T4 to T3. This can be reversed my treating the underlying disorder. It is called Low T3 Syndrome or Euthyroid Sick Syndrome.
This is interesting I was also positive for Lyme when all my Hypothyroid symptoms flared up. I never even thought to bring that up in any of my other post. Back in Oct when I got really sick I had Lyme and TSH of 56.
My reverse T3 was very high, it was 415 and range is up to 350. She said it could be stress in my body or my body fighting off an illness. I of course am one for research so I looked it up trying to find info and am curious if my thryoid is messed up over all. My TSH has been from 4.80 to 2.6 to 3.8 it jumps around all over. My endo was not concerned about this as she said my free's were in normal range, but I have been told this is NOT normal (by my LLMD) for this to flucuate so much

Good luck.

My doctor didn't mention reverse t3.
Was he the one who said Wilson's?
check out the section on thyroid about half way down the page.
It looks like it can resolve with proper treatment of the Lyme.
