Hives and hypothyroid

I had a severe case of hives beginning about 9 weeks ago (ended up in the E.R in anaphylactic shock), and that is when I was diagnosed with hypo. I suspect I have been suffering from hypothyroidism for a number of years. I am still experiencing symptoms with treatment and the hives come and go as they please. My DR sent me to an allergist who believes that the hives are a result of high TSH and I agree, but my latest labs came back 'normal'. DR did increase the Levothyroxine  to 75mcg because she(thankfully) is treating me based on how I feel instead of the lab results. I'm just so tired of all of this and I just wanna cry, sometimes DO cry. I'm terrified that I will never feel good again-it was easier before I knew I had this disorder because I just accepted feeling crappy as a part of daily life for me. I am currently taking Claritin, Zyrtec, Zantac 150, Naproxen 1000mg, and Seroquel (chronic insomnia) along with the Levothyroxine. Just here for some support, and grateful to not feel so alone anymore.

Back to the allergist tomorrow. Felt really bad today-swollen, itchy, fatigued. I'm going to ask for a referral to an immunologist. I just can't live like this anymore.

I dont think mine is related to the thyroid issues.
My son goes into anaphalaxix with bee/wasp stings.
I think mine is related to the Arum Lily or the totmato paste as it has an intitoxin in but if consumed in large amounts (lucopene) and you have thyroid issues then is very toxic.
Seem a bit of a co-insidence???

The normal fresh tomato has 0.3grams of lucopene. I added a large tin of diced tomatoes (27 grams) and then Dolmios spaghetti sauce (49grams) so think maybe overdose of tomatoes along with ripping out a lily that is highly poisoness (which I didnt know).

So will find after tests done (more bloods (yukk) but I also have a heart murmur and 2 prolapses of heart valves so cant afford to go through this again (anaphalaxix),
I am allergic to just about every antibiotic going, celery, peanuts, penicillin.
There is only one antibiotic I can take now and I dont take it unless I am nearly dying lol (dental treatment)

Thanks for the input-I think seeing an immunologist is a good idea. The fact that hives worsen with every flare up is a frightening concept as I have already laid in an ER and watched my vital stats drop. That time I had to call my friend to come and take me to the ER because my husband was already gone for work and my eyes were swollen shut-as well as airway swelling. Prior to this I had an occurence of "ideopathic hives" in 2004. At that time a cause was never determined. I just feel certain that it's all related to my thyroid problem.

I still have hives, but I am thinking I might be allergic to the Snythroid.  I've been playing doctor here, I've tried taking less (still hives) and I tried taking more, either way I still have hives.  The only thing is I've been on Snythroid for almost 3 years.  I started out slow, and just worked myself up to .50, so I don't know if it could be the meds, if I've been on them this long?  I've been staying on the Claritin every night, so I really do not know how bad the hives are, the Claritin seems to be keeping them in check.  If I see them, then I freak out!!  I should be getting my lab work back today, so I will post them later.  Hopefully something will be out of the norm, so I can maybe fiqure this out.

I too had a bad case of hives resulting in anaphalaxix and now carry an Epi-pen.
I wasnt hypo but back traced mine first off to tomato paste (dolmios spaghetti sauce) and also to the Arum Lily plant that I tried to pull out that day.
I'll let you know how I go tomorrow as I see an Allergist and also an Immuniologist.
My Doc said that as we have an Autoimmune Disease (I have Graves) that we should also see an Immunologist.
Maybe you can try to get into see one?

Sometimes it is the auotimmune disease that can flare up a bad case of hives but firstly remember that EVERY bout of Hives is worst than the last bout.

I'll let you know how I go tomorrow.

Please look into a Levothyroxin that contains NO fillers. They do make them. I have a friend that had the same issue and was allergic to the dyes and fillers.

Also don't get too caught up in TSH, it doesn't determine a whole lot. You need to get the Free T3 and Free T4 results.

Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me
