Home sweet Home after surgery

Hi everyone! i'm finally home! thankyou so much for all the lovely messages, they've really cheered me up!

everyone at the hospital was so nice but i am so glad to be home :) I was supposed to be having 90% of my thyroid removed but during surgery the surgeon decided to do total thyroidectomy and removed every last bit including the swollen lymph glands i had nearby, my neck is a lot thinner now than it was when i went in :) although feels really tight across the front of my neck -is this normal? and got a strange blister above the incision which even the dr did't know what it was! - any ideas?

feeling a bit rough at the moment, got a chest infection from the breathing tubes and had a few side effects from the morphine - but like i said i'm just glad to be home now where i can relax and be around fellow thyroid friends!

my fiance has even managed to rig his old laptop up to the internet cos i didn't feel upto sitting up at the computer desk, i'm now sitting on the comfort of my sofa :) he's such an angel!

just awaiting the pathology result now

Thankyou again for all the well wishes, it's good to be back,

loads of love Helen x x x

Hi there!!!!  Great to hear you are home - well done you.
Yes I had a lot of tightness around my inscision area and still do - not so uncomfortable now but def' still there. I'm so glad you were a happy with how they treated you but there is just nothing like your own bed is there? :)
Now young lady, you MUST take it easy and enjoy being pampered for a little while.  Do not underestimate the amount these op's take out of you and remember there is a lot of healing to do in there?
Will be in touch

When you take a photo of the incision definitely post it (if ok with you) and let me know so I will take a look at it.  Mine started out as a tiny pea sized lump right above the incision the night of surgery and then proceeded to grow and grow and grow and then became obvious and red and sore to the touch, etc.

They eventually - 6 weeks later - took it out and it was pressing almost on my esophagus .. my pathology revelaed my lump was an infected cyst that burst and then scar tissue began to form around it (infected scar tissue) so that is what the removed .. a huge 1.0cm glob of this infectious granuloma was the name.  Thank goodness it's gone and I'm ok.

Now, the other thing I had happen is called a Stitch Abscess and that starts as a blister .... and then fills with pus and the stitch itself starts breaking thru the blister like a splinter .. the body rejects them for some reason and they come out, etc.

I wonder if it is a stitch abscess.  Do a search in the archives for ChitChatNine Stitch Abscess or Spitting Stitches and you'll find my old posts.

Someplace I have a pic of my little bumpy #2 ..... you couldn't miss it ..

The tight is from the surgery most likely (but I'm not a Dr) ..... there are mega internal stitches inside.   In about 10 days it starts to ease up.

hears to the surf my friend CHEERS!

Hi, know tha feeling well! Keep eye on blister, could possibly in need of further drainage? I had to have a tube & bad installed *yuk! After mine, cause the removals were so many! Sounds like yours was as extensive too. 4 1/2 hrs. to remove all of my Thyroid, 2 nodules from my Vocal Chords & unwrap & free Nerves in neck & shoulders! I had to stay for 3 days in hospital, para-thyroid had to be monitored for potential damages- potassium levels still jiggly. And thats after almost 3 mos.
Still adjusting Meds & trying to get back into regular life- its not as easy as the Drs. made it sound! A friend says it took her a yr!
Take care! And I am still trying to get rid of the lung infection!

I had something weird above my incision.  But I am only on a few mins.  It was a cyst that burst under the skin ... more later .. promise .. they thought it was a lymph node at first. ?

SO GLAD YOU ARE HOME!!!!  AND I am glad they took 100% with what you describe!

Welcome home! I had some tightness after my TT (04/08), too.  Lots of healing going on in there!  Get lots of rest, let yourself be spoiled, and heal.  Keep us posted on the path report - I'm praying for you!
