How Long For Reaction to Go Away

I recently started having a horrible itch all over my body. It started in my groin and slowly moved up to my neck/back of scalp where it has stayed (there only). I am on 25 of synthroid. I went through the whole first bottle fine but after 4 days on the second bottle, the itching started. I am not sure what else it could be. I have never had this reaction or any dry skin/allergies in my life. It also always seems to start after lunch as well. Then it eases off and comes again at night. I cannot figure this out.
My doctor indicated today for me to go off for a few days to see it the itch goes away. How long would it take for the itch to leave if it is the meds?
