Does anybody know? My doctor put me on it Monday and said it will be about 3 weeks before my appointment. In fact, its Friday already and I still have not gotten the call with the appointment.
Can it harm me to be on it for 3/4 weeks? I can hang in there with the diet, in fact I feel challenged to eat within the strict guidelines. Coffee is my only downfall, how I miss coffee (cant drink it without sugar).
I was on LID for 4 1/2 weeks and it sure was a challenge but I don't think it did me any harm at all in fact I had a "fabulous" uptake of I131 which has nuked any remaining papPap smear Pap smears and cervical cancer. cancer according the the Endo. Hang in there - you can do it.

PS sugar is fine on LID
Sugar IS fine on LID. Brown sugar, on the other handHand or foot spasms Hand tremor, is not, because it has molasses and that has iodine. Coffee however, is considered questionable by some LID diets. I WILL NOT give up coffee and it was fine on my LID diet. LID is not really that bad if you don't eat many processed foods. I made everything from scratchAllergy skin prick or scratch test Allergy testing and although it was more time consuming, I ate rather well.
You do have this don't you? http://www.thyca.org/ThyCa%20Cookbook%20011804.pdf
But, I was only on LID for a little less than two weeks though. One week before RAI and another after... What's with everyone being on it for weeks and weeks? Does protocol vary based on whether there was, or the severity of, the metastasis?
Well I had metastasis to a lymph node (1 of 4) and the final biopsy report stated significant disease in the thyroid on both sides. I think my doctor feels that the longer I'm on the diet, the better chance I have of starving off my remaining cells and having a "fabulous" uptake like Jennifer above. Its so encouraging to hear positive stories and I really appreciate all of you sharing.
My newest obsession is the lump under the scar area. Since my disease attached to my trachea, I worry about it growing back there. LOL. I guess I'll worry the rest of my life now.
Any tips would be appreciated. pep88, do you know anything about the no salt canned tomatoes. I think I need to look up the fresh tomatoe nutrition information. I had no idea that things growing naturally in nature had that much salt.
I'm not sure exactly what your question to me is... but, you can buy no-salt canned tomatoes many places. I used canned tomatoes in a ton of things, including spaghetti while I was hypo. Just added my own "kosher" salt. I made my own bread from the Thyca cookbook (very time consuming, but worth it) and even made the almond milk (not so terribly bad). I missed my dairy/cheese (you can have mocha mix in coffee) while on the LID but otherwise, ate like a king (and didn't gain any weight either!) Just takes a TON of prep and research time...
If you need help with any items, look in the Thyca cookbook, Google the item (I was trying to use brown sugar once, and it took me forever to find out the info..., it's a no no...), or send a message to the forum or me personnally. If I don't know, I can at least try to help you find the answer. I had a terrible sweet tooth when I was hypo (I don't normally), so I made rice krispie treats. I was so worried about doing it, but if you check into it, all the ingredients are totally ok. Rice Krispys are kosher (found it on their website), which means it's made with kosher salt (no iodine), marshmellows are recommended as a "treat" on the LID, and unsalted butter is all you need! It just takes research. Something that being hypo, I had a ton of time to do...
Good luck with your journey. Don't hesitate to ask if you have other questions... :-)
Hang in there with the diet - the best advice I can give you is to eat eveything fresh - no preservatives at all because iodates are used as shelf stabilizers for all kinds of things. Any questions just ask.

Jennifer, Congrats on the success. Do you do diet consulting? Can I ask you TONS of questions?????? I have so many questions for you like Tomatoes? They have them in the can with no salt added but there is a sodium content. Especially the paste. Did you eat those or stay off of them. I mean, I'm doing the whole nine yards. My own bread, my own mayo, mustard, katchup, salsa, even my own nacho chips. I always start with whole foods for the most part (except occasionally those tomato products I found).
Can you provide me with any tips? I am dying to get this think KICKED the first time around.
