How long does it take for inflamation(inflammation) of the thyroid gland to go down.

I went to the emergecy room because I was having difficult swallowing things and they said I had enlarged thyroid gland. In the er they did a cat scan, head and chest x-ray, blood and urine tests.
They put me on a taper dose of steroids for a few days and gave pain medication and the inflamtion has seem to go down. But it still hurts to try to eat solid foods. I am wondering when all the inflamatin will go down.
So then they sent me a few days later to see an ent specialist then he diagnosed me as having hashimoto's thyroditis. Then I was sent to an Encrondologist and she said they are not really sure what caused my enlarged thyroid gland if it was viral or if iust attacked itself so she ran more test. I have a very big family history of thyroid problems.

The best way to reduce the size of your thyroid is to get on meds so that your thyroid doesn't have to try so hard to produce hormones. The thyroid enlarges when it tries to produce adequate hormones and cannot.
Were your FT3, FT4 and TSH tested? If so, please post these numbers with their reference ranges. Also, did they do thyroid antibody tests to verify Hashi's (TPOab and TGab)?
